Not the car. The BBC series.

I don't normally watch this kind of program involving celebs doing things but this one I have found intriguing.
Anyone else following it.

I have watched some of it as I was involved in some of the recordings.

I was surprised at how quickly some of them picked it up, with some notable exceptions! Interesting to me was that although a lot of them look competent much of it was just facsimile - it was learned by rote and copied, rather than doing it with much understanding. Not surprising seeing as they'd only been doing it for a few weeks.

The big giveaway was when they tried to rehearse - they had no idea what to do! As a conductor you need to know what you want to do with the music - the last thing you are there for is to give a steady beat really, the orchestra are quite capable of playing without (and often do! wink )

Me too, but find I have been drawn in by the action/inaction of the participants to the music - fascinating stuff!

Who's going to win?

I think Sue Perkins and Alex James will be gutted if they don't make it to the finale.

I see NiceCupOfTea's point. It will be interesting to see if they can begin to influence the music instead of reacting to it.

Just watched again Peter Snow's first attempt from the first episode. Painful!

I thought Sue Perkins was remarkably good.

Jane Asher I thought was lousy. A very good mimic but a terrible conductor, no music in her at all.

Thank goodness for that - Jane Asher out on her arse biggrin

Couldn't understand how the panel couldn't see through her acting...

And Sue Perkins won - yay! Well deserved I thought.

B*llocks. I thought this was going to be a thread about the cash card that everybody still wants to call Switch. I guess my wait will continue...

I think Jane was going on the 'My old man says follow the band and don't dilly dally all the way' biggrin

Agree that Sue should win, but felt gutted for Goldy.

Now this chap (Wilhem Furtwangler) knew how to get the best out of an orchestra.

10 Pence Short. What's with a Switch being a Maestro?

That's what a switch card is called now. No, really. It is. Honest. Check it!

Yes, I did feel sorry for Goldie, he is obviously inherently musical. Sue Perkins has the musicality and the technique though.

Katie Derham's idea of conducting was to wiggle her ass and look flirty. Pity really as I always thought she was a bit classy.

I'm guessing that the wiggling was a pi$$-take from an earlier programme, where comments were made on an inadvertent wiggle while conducting.

Goldie was very good indeed, but he was obviously following the orchestra in parts, whereas Sue Perkins was very much leading. You could really tell that both of them have a background in music, I would love to see them both somehow take it further.

Yes indeed. She obviously wasn't a top professional who had had many hours to rehearse, but she led the orchestra rather than followed, and made a very respectable job of it.
