Having recently lost a generator (on hire) to the charming local little tinkers (and subsequent 7K deposit). I'm looking at getting trackers fitted to some of our higher value units being as they had a good look round while they were at it. Any one got any recommendations?

Ps don't go looking round pikey camps unless you're a good runner (or armed).

yes

Friend of mine's father in law runs a haulage company - they lost a flatbed truck with a crane on it (Pikeys angle ground their way through the gates at the yard)

It was found minus the crane on a pikey site, and I was one of the rather large group that went to recover it before any other bits disappeared from it. The crane was subsequently found and recovered from another pikey site.

Plod were not interested - they just told us where it had been found.

We got the truck and the crane back without any "serious" bother, but it is not an episode I would like to repeat in a hurry.

Exactly the reponse we got from the plod, they told us where it would be and we went for a subtle recce, obviously not subtle enough (or with enough people). Police weren't interested in investigating as wasn't worth the hassle of arranging several vans of riot clad plod...
