Evening all..

I have recently spent some time in America...San Fransisco to be precise. Whilst there i got talking to a number of people who have very different views of Mr Obama. The general consensus was of a man who was very demanding in principal, but lacks a certain experience and is looking to take the wealth of the few in order to distribute among the many. The people i met/talked to about politics were well to do, financially competent (a lawyer and and an accountant)! I am interested in the thoughts of those on PH's about what the motivations of Mr Obama are and what affects these may have on the world.

Boring topic maybe bit it interests me nevertheless!.

I've just watched his speech to the Conference and he was excellent but no Bill Clinton. You must remember America is very conservative and radical change takes a long time, oxymoron I know.

After 8 years of W, anythingelse is better for the world. I think Mcain is too old and has left it too late to be effective.

Go Obama

He speaks a good game but fails to say how he will pay for it. He already stated he will raise taxes on those making $250,000 / year or more. A tax break for those under. Although, the break is minimal. He appears destined to establish government-controlled services/systems. I see this as punishing those who were successful. Why should being successful come with a penalty? You make more, you will pay more anyway, raising the rate is not fair.
Even with tax hikes, he will be short on money and will have to cut other things. I suspect defense. We have all seen this before. It was called the Jimmy Carter administration. Double digit inflation, double digit unemployment, and double digit interest rates; people have simply forgotten.
Penalizing the "rich" only causes those who run small businesses (America's largest collective employers)to cut back; thus, causing more harm than good.

Excerpts from his books and questionable associates raise questions that a white person would never live down. Having said that, I believe him to be a principled man with a genuinely good heart, just not my choice for the Chief Executive.

He has one of the most left wing voting records in the senate and campaigned on a vacuous and rather left wing(by American standards) platform.

If it weren't for all the media hysteria over the fact he has a dusky complexion he wouldn't even have taken the Democratic nomination.

He's a leftie. It's to be expected. Though the BBC seem to think he can walk on water, and cure their imaginary MMGW with a sweep of his hand.

It seems those I know who are doing well in the USA are looking to leave the coutry if he gets in power. As he just plans to screw the successful, they're a minority. So don't have a deciding vote.

It seems most of the "western" countries seem to be doing this. How ironic when those who were anti-communist countries are becoming more "share the wealth with the poor". Yet those who were communist states are encouraging people to be more succesful.

yes Our media report almost nothing of John McCain who will, almost certainly, be the next President - if I understand anything at all (which I may not, of course!). This is because Obama fits better with their Weltanshaung. Our media, on the other hand, can't affect the results of US Elections like they can ours so their biased reporting is practically irrelevant.

Frankly I am more interested in our politics. Our media make far too much of US elections. They barely mention elections in the rest of the world...
