Family holiday in France - Carnac near Vannes - weather has been rubbish and we are all bored to death, we have got to get back to Calais so thinking there must be something to see / do en route.

Anyone got any suggestions ?

Paris is a bit too far off track and dumping the family and going for a hoon is off too as I'm in the Wife's TDi.

Cheers

Visit Le Mans - drive down to La Chartre Sur Le Loir on the D305 and have some lunch at the famous Hotel de France.

Try this place - a couple of hours north of you. I dare you to spend less than a day there

if you've got a few cl of petrol in your veins.

I loved it!

Take The D767 From Vannes - Pontivy - Continue along until you get to Mur-de-Bretagne ( Excellent restaurant ""Auberge grand maison"" here if you are Hungry ....)

http://www.auberge-grand-maison.com/

Turn Left onto the N164 Aim for beau rivage ""lac de Guerlnedan ""

Some watersports activities Hire Boat jet ski etc.

Some great roads around the Foret de Quencan for scenic forest roads great if its a sunny day.

The Loire valley's vaguely en route, as is Rennes which is surprisingly nice (And if you're camping the municipal campsite is pretty good.)

Parc Aquanature is a good day out. It's a deer park and you can either walk round, get taken round in a Unimog or bumble about in a golf buggy - great fun as the tracks are quite "off road" to say the least.

There is the museum of French Resistance not far from you:

Also the zoo at Pont Scorff is excellent

as is the Aquarium at Brest

The weather in Brittany is very localised so don't despair if you wake up to it grey and wet. You can often drive 5/10 miles up the coast and it's completely different. I've just come back and it was lovely - we were up near Concarneau.
