....and he's been given FOUR WEEKS!

He's a standard poodle who is 10 years old, but we're all down. Even our other dog seems down.
And it all only started last Wednesday with a lump on his leg. He had to go 50 miles away to have an operation, and tests have revealed he's got a type of cancer in the blood system frown

Life's such a bh sometimes!

Don't care what anyone says about pets.. they do become part of the family and their loss is like any other member of a family...

So sorry to hear that Darren, just make sure you give him the best 4 weeks...

Our last Dog had a lump grow on his neck, Vet said it was nothing serious. Over a year later it 'burst' and Vet then said it was cancerous, he lasted about a week. I think that these things come on quickly in Dogs but at 14 years old he'd done OK.

Darren, i can honestly say i feel for you. Our dog a yorkie got diagnosed with cancer last may. He was quite old (14 years old at the time) and was given 6 weeks. 15 months later, he's still here with us enjoying his life smile

Thank you guys, it's comforting to hear your comments. And I feel for all those who have been in the same situation.

We haven't had him for the 10 years. We've had him 5, after his previous were going to put him down because they were moving abroad and didn't want to put him into quanteen for 6 months yikes

I just fear at the moment for his leg. Like I mentioned, he had an op last week on his rear leg. Since then, he's struggled to put weight on it, and his paw is constantly curled round, so he's scrubbing the top of the paw along the ground. Now we've had dogs in the past, who've had leg problems, and they had to put down. I just hope this won't be the case here, and he recovers enough to enjoy what time he has.

Thanks again,

Darren

Just an update for those of you who posted on here.

Many thanks, once again, for the kind words in this thread.
Today was the day. The pain was getting to him, and he wasn't eating properly. We knew it would have to come sooner or later.
We took him to the vets to be put down earlier this afternoon frown

It was extremely quick, but the main saving grace is that he had over 8 weeks with us - double what the doctors had estimated.

Regards,

Darren
