Has anyone got or used one? I'm about to change contracts on my mobile and was looking at an iPhone but have seen this. Basically Samsung's take on the iPhone. Details here:

Probably a much better bet than an iPhone, but then again so are most other products out there ....

At the very least its got a massively better camera.

Does it? OK, more megapixels but what is the lens like? How compressed are the images? Gee whiz features do not make a better camera.

After reading a few reviews, seems it isnt a bad piece of kit. The only downside people have said is no WiFi and the display screen isnt as good as an iPhone.

And they are pretty big downsides.

True, but depends how cheap it ends up being, compared to an iPhone/similar.

It's 3G with 7.2Mbps speeds apparently, so as long as you get an unlimited data package, the lack of WiFi isnt that bad a thing. And the screen is just apparently not as colour rich as the Apple, again... not a major problem for me.

Samsung can make cracking telly's but can they make a decent mobile?

No, I had one years ago, hated the interface and battery life.

I then got one this year, 5MP camera, all singing all dancing, it was rubbish, picture quality was worse than my 3.2MP Sony Ericsson K800i, battery life still terrible.

Sent it back within a week.

I now have an iPhone and loving it.

My phone is also 7.2Mbps but the coverage is incredibly patchy in the South East. I still use wifi at home and in the office. But you're right, as long as you have an unlimited data plan it's not too bad.

I haven't seen the phone, will check it out later, but what about 3rd party applications for it?

Hold your horses there.
No UK provider runs at 7.2 Mbps, I believe.

I had a D900 (I think that was it), and now a U600 and liked both of them, mainly for their ergonomics and 'feel' of the keypad etc. Think this is my main reason for looking at the Tocco, as I was after an iPhone and then found Samsung do an alternative.

I'm new to this 'genre' of phones, I've only had the humble text and speak ones before and never ventured into 3rd party software etc. I'm looking to make the change to these now and why I was looking at an iPhone. But obviously, there will be more 3rd party software for an iPhone, so maybe thats the choice to go with.

I don't know, just simple stating what the phone details and specification is. You could be right though.

The hardware for that is being rolled out, I've hit that speed in London, certainly, so hopefully won't be too long before it hits the rest of the UK.

Went into Orange today as thats who I am with. They said if I upgrade it will cost me £69.99 for the phone as I'm on a £35 a month contract

However, if I'm a new customer it will only cost £29.99. How does that work?

Its not just megapixels - its autofocus, which gives a huge advantage, and I doubt anyone (in their right mind) would ever claim the iPhone to actually have a decent camera.

Cancel your contract, get your number migrated to PAYG, then get new contract and migrate number to new contract, if they have to be awkward, may as well cost them cash!

DON'T put in on Orange PAYG though.

you can do the above, but make sure you port your number to a network other than Orange.

i'm on orange and had just over 3mths left on my £35 a month contract. when i contacted them they wanted £299 to upgrade to the tocco or if i waited til there was less than 3mths left (yesterday) it was £69. went 2 carphone warehouse yesterday and they renewed my orange contract on same tariff, keeping same no, gave me a tocco for free and £50 worth of accesories which i could only find £40 worth of stuff i wanted so the girl even gave me a tenner out the til. always went straight through orange for the last 5yrs but was very impressed with the carphone warehouse and would highly recomend going through them.
