I know we have a lot of people that would need to wear smart shoes and a suit to work each day so I will proceed with my question.
I need to wear suit and shoes each day for 5/6 days a week and I buy shoes and they break.
I was looking at some nice Paul Smith ones, but my worry is that I spend £170 on them and they do the same as the ones I paid 100 for 3 months earlier.
So am I being silly because I bought a few different pairs and they all break round the sides..
Help me please

Seriously though expensive shoes aren't what they're cracked up to be. Get some cheapo ones that you can throw away that look half decent.

Well, I have a pair of PS slip on shoes, whilst they are nice, the leather is very thin and the sole has started to show signs of wear, more so than I would have expected.
However, I really do think that the Church's I am wearing today could withstand a nuclear bomb being dropped on them. They are incredibly well made and a very substantial pair of shoes. They were a few bob more than £100.00 quid mind, but they really are worth it…

Hello mate. I'm sorry, I have to disagree with you there. Shoes maketh the man.Seriously though expensive shoes aren't what they're cracked up to be. Get some cheapo ones that you can throw away that look half decent.
A great pair of shoes will feel incredible, they feel light and balanced, they smell just right... They'll go with just about anything you choose to wear. They become a part of you.
It's my dream to one day have handmade bespoke shoes, but for now I'll make do with PS and OS
They all die in the end.
If you commute on the train, it's millions of times worse.
Solutions;
1) Buy loads of new shoes, and throw them away regularly.
2) Wear cheap shoes on the train. Keep good ones at work.
3) Buy cheaper but still decent shoes, and have rubber soles installed directly on leather soles. It makes them last longer.
4) Get a chauffered limo.
5) Just put up with ropey looking shoes.

Oliver Sweeney. £200 buys a pair, and they'll last for ages. I had a pair for a couple of months and some of the stitching came away. Took them back and was immediately given a new pair with a million apologies. Still got them a year or so later, and they still look new.
Yeh, had these in mind.Did you buy them from a dealer?
As the nearest place I could pick some up would be the bentall center.. Woudl they offer the same support?

Not those awful preacher shoes with the fark off great buckles on the front? However, I really do think that the Church's I am wearing today could withstand a nuclear bomb being dropped on them. Well by break im guessing you mean the rubber at the back heels wear away and then fall of.
Well the key thing to do is to look for shoes that dont have MDF/chipboard heels and then have a thin layer of rubber on the heel. So avoid shoes like this.
Instead look for full rubber material heels, eg M&S autograph shoes £60 fell apart in a year due to the mdf and thin layer of rubber wore of.
ATM i have some burton ones and they have full rubber heels still going strong after a year !
Oh if you cant tell if its a rubber heel of mdf heel you can tell by pushing your nail into the top of the heel.
Ps no point in uber expensive smart shoes imo. Go for cheap £50 ones.

Erm, got mine from the shop accross the road from Liverpool Street Station. it's an OS shop, but I guess the guarantee should be the same no matter where you got them from.

I have a pair od Custom Loakes from when I was 18 (20yrs ago) and they look better now then when new - obviously had a few resoles/heels etc..
Also had a few pairs of Jeffrey Wests that have stood up well.
Never been into the Italian shoes much before but I've had a pair of Canali brougues for a year now which are lovely and the missus recently got me a pair of Prada shoes that have have seriously impressed me. Very good quality leather and extremely comfortable - also very traditional styling which was a relief.
