Last summer the OH was banging-on about how her Dad never lifts a finger when it comes to arranging holidays and how it's always up to her Mum to arrange holidays, do the packing, etc... and she doesn't want me to be like her Dad and be one of those blokes who never sorts stuff out.

So... In an attempt to prove that I'm not a useless waste of space I found a gorgeous apartment in Nice, over looking the sea, worked-out a weeks worth of fun stuff to do, established where and when to fly, basically got the whole thing to a point where I just had to confirm flights and pay for them and book the apartment. At that point it transpired that the OH's passport had expired, so I told her to get another sorted out. There then began the saga...

She wanted me to take a photo of her with my digital camera, Photoshop it to make sure she looked perfect and then get it printed onto photographic paper to send to the passport office. We couldn't do this as the places that print digital images to photographic paper use paper that has writing on the back, and the passport office won't accept this. The photo shops will only print to paper that doesn't have writing on the back if they take the photo, and the OH doesn't want this as she want me to be able to 'enhance' the image before it is sent.

Needless to say the holiday fell-through and more than six months later we still have had no holiday and she still hasn't got her passport sorted. I feel like telling her to stop being so bloody vain, it's a fecking passport not a modelling portfolio, and to get herself into one of those photo booths and get it sorted or I'll wash my hands of the whole thing and go off somewhere on my own.

Can anyone suggest the best way of getting a result?

Probably need to post the picture here so we can judge properly.

ETA: If she is seriously that vain, she could go and get her hair and makeup done, then go to a photographer who can take a portrait shot that meets passport requirements, and get it printed. However if she is seriously that vain you are better going on holiday yourself.

Cheers,

FT.

Bonus print do passport photos on plain backed paper.
Isn't photoshoping a passport photo against the rules. Yes she may look like Nell McAndrew on her passport but unless she looks like that for real what is the point?
Sorry but your missus sounds vain and mental I would be taking a life long holiday from her.

You have my sympathies, she sounds like a bh. 6 months later and it's still an issue? You have to arrange an entire holiday yet she can't sort out one passport photo?

Take her shopping to a big out of town place with a photo booth. Accidentially go past it and tell her to get her photo taken. If she refuses dump the bh on the spot and go home without her. Dont go and pick her up.

She might just about get the message.

I'm pretty certain it's illegal to tamper with a passport photo, so if she persists with this game, she may have more on her hands than a crap photo. Whole saga is ridiculous. Time for her to either get a grip or for you to go without her.

"Win" an all expenses paid holiday to say Mauritius for a week and tell her you're going with one of your mates as she hasn't got a passport . . .

It's very illegal to 'shop a passport image. She's likely to end up being arrested as a terrorist the way the things are going.

Oh I like that. Do you have a "fit" female mate who you secretly fancy. If so I'd suggest getting her in on the game.

Get the completed forms and the "untouched" photos. Say you will enhance them and post them off at work. "Enhance" the pictures by adding an extra stone of two along with the obligatory witch’s wart on her nose then post.

That will teach her.

Astonishing that someone would want their passport photo to be retouched. The lady in question needs to stop being an idiot.

yes
It's a very big nono to mess with passport pics - give her the instructions that come with a passport form and highlight the relevant parts.

Just get a photo of her, and send off for the passport. I have to be honest, I agree with you. My OH would never get away with something like that.

I'm sure she has many other qualities, however, you need to have a very serious word with her. She's taking the piss out of you big time, you need to make her cry if posssible. My advice; have a serious talk about her failure to get her passport renewed. Then I would clear off for a weekend with the boys, can I suggest a trip to Le Mans in June? There is no finer way to spend your time than with similarly minded petrolheads, strong drink, late nights, fun and games and of course the whiff of a racingcar. That'll teach her.

Definitely:

http://www.ips.gov.uk/passport/index.asp

The guide says:

The photographs must be:
• identical;
• in colour, not black and white;
• taken within the last month;
• taken against a light grey or cream background;
• 45 millimetres (mm) high x 35 millimetres (mm) wide (however, please do not trim your photographs to meet this condition);
• fit into the template, with your eyes positioned in the area marked by the shaded band;
• undamaged, for example; not torn, creased, or marked;
• free from shadows;
• taken with your eyes open and clearly visible (with no sunglasses or tinted glasses, and no hair across your eyes);
• free from reflection or glare on your glasses, and the frames must not cover your eyes (where possible, we recommend that you remove
your glasses to avoid the possibility of rejections);
• free from ‘Redeye’;
• of you facing forward, looking straight at the camera;
• with a neutral expression, your mouth must be closed (no grinning, frowning or raised eyebrows);
• of you on your own (no babies’ dummies, toys or other people visible);
• taken of the full head, without any covering, unless it is worn for religious beliefs or medical reasons;
• taken with nothing covering your face.

fking about with the photo in Photoshop is almost certainly out of the question!!!!

She sounds like a total fruit-loop - get shot sharpish.
