Me and the bloke from work were talking. I asked what the exact date the moonlanding was? i thought was 19th july 1969, I was wrong.
however we got thinking, what is the biggest thing youve ever seen on tele? kennedy getting shot, twin towers or even Petric's goal against England.

Mines probally was the twin towers.

reason i ask, is for cool things to look up on youtube.

"Greatest" as in most memorable events. not as in 'best':

Twin towers coverage was pretty awsome.

Tsunami coverage. Hard to beleive the sacle of the thing, yet being almost compeltely unaffected and getting on with boxing day.....

Tommy Cooper dying live on tele. got one of the best laughs ever. Sad.
(Appologies to Henry Cooper for Tommy Cooper like cock up..)

Gulf war coverage

Queen mothers funeral (massed pipes band) done with class.

Althropes speach at Diana funeral.

Liverpool coming back from 3-0 down to win Champions league final (I'm an Everton fan so it was a nightmare)

The bit on Comic Relief or Cash for Kids, whatever it's called,
when Joanna Lumley got her kit off. Fantastic Television, don't
think it's on YouTube though!

Yep. "Just like that". Never seen it repeated, live stage performance. Went quiet and leaned back onto the curtain, slipped down onto the stage. Everyone thought it was part of the act, lots of laughter. Still had his fez on I think. 2 minutes of someone dying on live television.

I'd agree that this is possibly one of the most memorable.

I was working in a TV broadcast control room on that day - we had feeds from all UK channels (terrestrial and satellite) and many european feeds as well.

Usually, the vast banks of monitors are all showing different feeds - within a few minutes the majority of the monitors were showing the same (or similar) pictures - a bit like the scene in Independance Day with the President's address if you like!

It was a very strange feeling, and awe inspiring once the gravity of the situation began to sink in.

It was one of those 'you will never forget where you were that day' moments. I was with my girlfriend in her lounge and we just sat and watched in silence for about 2 hours. I could not move or speak, my brain kept on whispering to me that this can't be real!

England World Cup Rugby win was pretty awesome too!

The infamous 'Live into '85' was a big TV extravaganza meant to see in the new year. Big names, big acts, it was the flagship programme that night.

It all went horribly wrong due to number of reasons, one of them being bad weather and a complete technical breakdown which ended up in the presenters not being able to read cues, hear directions and staring totally speachless into the cameras for long periods.

Agreed on the above - but for sheer slap you in the face, "this can't be real" emotions...Probably the Challenger Space Shuttle.
