Why is it that 'entertainers' get more publicised recognition from Queen and Country than the real heroes risking their lives?

Watching Ross Kemp in Afghanistan (superb) and seeing the boys get given crappy medals at the end of the tour and thinking to myself that each one of them has done more for our country than all of the football kicking, line-reciting entertainers put together.

Just thought your views on this would be interesting.

Never mind medals they should be paid more, and be properly equipped for a start.

I wouldn't like it if the Queen recognised me.

She probably recognises Burrell, and he's a nobber.

.
The differance is that to get to Afganistan you just need to be young and stupid enough to join the army, while to get to the point in entertainment or sport where you are prescented to the queen you need to have displayed a lot of talent and luck.

How many people would now in Afganistan would be there if they had a choice, join Army/Sign for Man U?

Because the t**ts who choose the recipients of the awards are t**ts who don't recognise what being heroic or deserving of such an accolade is (I'm sure half the time they just want to meet the famous people). Kicking a ball around whilst being paid more in a week than most people earn a year, doesn't quite cut it.

Do you think all sportspeople are undeserving of state awards?

I am saddened that British soldiers/sailors/airmen serving their country (a country which you are part of) are being so ridiculed by those they serve.

The OP is wrong! I went to an investiture at Buckingham Palace when my father received his CBE from the Queen. There were very few celebrity-types there. In fact I can only name one, Felicity Kendall (made my dad's day to be sat next to her). There were people from all walks of life - businessmen, charity workers, soldiers, sportsmen, politicians, civil servants, school crossing ladies, a village postmistress.
An old school mate of mine also has an MBE, which he received for serving in Bosnia.

The thing is that the media is only interested in reporting the celebs, but for every celeb, there are a hundred ordinary or extraordinary people who deserve recognition.

Compared to people who spend hours and hours raising money for charity etc. yes.

It's all relative. I mean, if they win a Gold Medal, they've already got a medal, why do they want another...

Go through the honours list, it is rather large and most of the people aren't famous at all. Last time I read it I was trying to find the people I'd heard of smile

I agree entirely. I went to my Grandma's a few years ago (MBE for being instrumental in the management of RAFA), and the only 'famous' people there were a couple of rowing guys from the Olympics.

So you think that state awards should not be given to people for sporting achievement?

97 Octane is quite right lots of people get a mention without being famous just not reported in the media, for instance I am and "Old Royal" and various other things but have never been reported in the media ......................thank god !!!!!! not worth mentioning the rest of the story

There has been a series of programs about the royal family at "work", part of them has been about the queens honours etc and indeed "celebrities" make up a very small proportion of the recipients.

The only difference and sad fact is that David Beckham getting a medal for poncing sells more papers than John Smith losing his left arm saving a baby from a burning building.

You utterly despicable gobste piece of insignificant, illiterate, degenerate faeces. I've wiped things from the sole of my shoe which have more decency and worth than you will ever muster in your miserable, pointless and wasted existence.

You need to learn to present your opinion more clearly.
