you cant possibly be due yet another holiday!!
In Mr Trees defence, although he plans lots of holidays he rarely has the time to take them.he is captain of the good trip holiday vessel.
He is always on a jolly!!

Unfortunately I only get 'windows of opportunity' and have to take them at specific times
(in other words as often as possible)We went a few years ago and had a great time - think we stayed in Kamari. All the photos of the blue and white buildings are in Thira the capital which was only a short bus ride away.
The trip to the active volcano in the middle of the caldera was a good trip out its like stepping onto the moon.
As it is a volcanic island the beaches are black sand and the sea slopes away very quickly consequently we spent a lot of our time in the pool rather than on the beach.
look on these websites for reviews etc

Anyone been?
Looks idlyic, but is it as good as the pics?
What is there to do etc ?
Where to go or stay and where to avoid?
Drove there in 2000 with girlfriend, via Italy (Ancona). Went back in 2003 with her and got married overlooking the caldera. It's a unique island with an amazing history. You have to be there to imagine how big a volcanic eruption there was to blow the whole middle out of the island. Oia was our favourite town, but everything overlooking the caldera is spectacular. The other parts are like plenty of other Greek islands, by which I mean pretty good.Looks idlyic, but is it as good as the pics?

Am keeping an eye on this thread, as I'm going in September.
I found that a lot of hotels/apartments were fully booked a few months ago - good luck with finding a place. Never seen any resort where so many hotels get such a high score on Trip Advisor. Must be a good sign.
Am Staying at the Iliovasilema hotel. Tried to book the Ikies apartments, but was fully booked (back in April).

Spent a week there back in 2001.
It's a pretty quite island, with all three main towns on the inside edge of the crescent overlooking the bay at the caldera - the towns are all built down the cliff faces with restaurants generally having roof terraces, so essentially nearly every place you eat has an uninterrupted view of the bay/caldera - get your timing right and you'll be dining on local seafood while the sun sets over the magnificent view. Awwwwww.
It's generally a pretty quiet island, so great for chilling out - some interesting archaeological ruins there too, if you fancy some history.
Enjoyed my week, but would probably have been more content spending 3 days there and doing some island hopping.

Do most people fly there from Athens ?
I guess the travel is my only doubt. Want to go for a week, but not traveling for two days of it.
We flew in 2003 from Gatwick to Santorini direct. It does have a proper airport!I guess the travel is my only doubt. Want to go for a week, but not traveling for two days of it.
