I'm on the move again and would wish to know areas to avoid and areas which are 'nice'.
I am going to be working about 3 miles south of Lincoln, but am prepared to travel up to about 10-15 miles each way. We have two kids that are of primary school age, so that is a factor as well......if you do not wish to state an area as a 'no-go' in public please email my profile.
Thanks in advance

North Hykenham and the villages around there all look very nice. (That A15 can be a b*tch in a morning but there is a back road that links all those villages going in to Lincoln itself).

As for parts of the city, sorry but I've no idea.

My lil baby sis is at university there and it does seem a very nice place to be. I would guess from the houses that the east/north side of town is the better place to be.

Fookit - I don't know my east from my west - I mean the west side (driving eastwards).

My parents just recently moved to Woodhall Spa which is very nice indeed, just about the right distance to commute. I went to uni there as well, avoid lincoln itself like the plague, the out lying villages are much nicer.

Woodhall's nice, though Dunston is closer (and smaller) and has a rail link into Lincoln if you need it from Metheringham which also has a half decent primary school.

Property's cheap as chips

indeed the property is very cheap, my parents have a lovely big place, and have left me to fend for myself down south where a small 2 bed property costs nearly what there big 5 bed place does!

I live in Heckington, very nice village, quite big with co-op, chinese, 3 pubs, sports bar, playing field, train station etc etc.

Is situated right on the A17 too, Lincoln is about 15 miles away.

From what I’ve seen of the town, do not, under any circumstances - buy a place in, or on the periphery of the town centre.

They have a bar in the town centre called "triples for singles" ,amongst the other bars selling ludicrously cheap drinks. You can go figure the rest, the world and his wife were pissed in Lincoln town centre, and this was a Thursday night.

Weekends if you had the misfortune to live in or near the town would I imagine be a nightmare. I would specifically try and avoid any of the semi and terraced houses in the city centre as they are mostly student areas.

However, when I was visiting a friend at university there 2 weeks ago, I obviously took full advantage of all the aforementioned offers.

I just wouldn’t want to live there myself. Just my 0.02p's worth...

How about looking in Waddington village itself then? Or Bracebridge Heath (just down the road). North Hykeham is your best bet in terms of schools, locality to town (and Waddington), amenities etc. I live in Saxilby which is 4 miles west of Lincoln and I would agree that its nicer to be out in the village than in town. However its not all bad in the middle of Lincoln and if you can find an area that isn't over run with students or immigrants then its not a bad place to be. I think the villages to the north of Lincoln are nicer but they are more expensive....

Houses around here are generally more expensive than most people can afford for some reason. If you've got a bit of cash behind you tho you shouldn't have a problem

If you don't mind moving a bit further out, how about somewhere further round to the West of Lincoln, such as Saxilby. I've got a couple of old school friends who still live there, so it can't be that bad.

Thinking longer term (don't know how long before your next move / posting), I believe the primary schooling is OK, and Saxilby is (or was) in the catchment area for QEHS, Gainsborough, which is were I went and where I would send any kids of mine if I ever have any.

Other places I would happily live in that are still close to Lincoln are Sturton, Ingham, Torksey.

Another mate used to live in Cherry Willingham, which IIRC is pretty nice too.

Leftfield suggestion would be to move further North towards Gainsborough (but, do not under any circumstances live in the town itself!), as the B1241 and B1398 are great roads.

Same here! Small world eh...

As mentioned there are some ace roads to be enjoyed around here as well. There is a great route form Hykeham up into the Wolds which is always fun, and there are a few nice roads out towards Gainsborough way.

We are considering Waddo as an option....it would be ideal really. Any of the places mentioned are ok, as long as there are some good schools. We don't want to be in the city....my mrs is a swamp dweller so wants to be in a village or in the sticks

My GF left there in '98 so you might remember her.
