He was playing the part of the out-of-touch sad old man and was of course very convincing. Don't read this wrong, I am quite a May fan but I have absolutely no idea what he was doing on TOTP.

I agree. It was quite painful. Then again TOTP must be drawing it's last breaths - we all know it's rightful place is 7pm on Thursday nights.
