... theory tests came along, here are a couple of typical questions from my sons official questions and answers book

Q1) You have to leave valuables in your car. It would be safer to:-

A: Put them in a carrier bag
B: Park near a school entrance
C: Lock them out of sight
D: Park near a bus stop

Q2) A vehicle pulls out in front of you at a junction. What should you do?

A: Swerve past it and sound your horn
B: Flash your headlights and drive up close behind
C: Accelerate past it immediately
D: Slow down and be ready to stop

You no doubt know which one you SHOULD do but what one would you ACTUALLY do?!

All the questions are very like those two samples so do you think you could pass the theory test?

This type of question annoys the crap out of me in any situation, but more so with something like the driving theory test, which assesses one's ability to safely drive a car on the road. Allegedly. What (TF) has your stance towards your own stuff got to do with driving safely? I know it should be an obvious one to get right, but it could be replaced with a question of real *value*.

Hrrmpf.

30. Just passed.

How the fk should I know about trams though? We don't get them in the Dales.

And when it said what should you do when entering a motorway. Keep to the left hand lane! Don't they know I've got a TVR?

Well the official advice is to drive in the left hand lane until you are used to the speed of the traffic.

That'll be a couple of nanoseconds then

What's this all about?

10. You intend to turn right into a side road. Just before turning you should check for motorcyclists who might be

a. overtaking on your left
b. following you closely
c. emerging from the side road
d. overtaking on your right

I answered b, apparently the correct answer is c. Surely this means that the motorcyclist is failing to follow the Highway Code by overtaking me when I am indicating right and overtaking through a junction? Is this a test of my ability to follow the Highway Code or somebody elses? Or if I knock the stupid bugger off is it my fault anyway for being in the nasty polluting car, which brings me to...

this shite about vehicles harming the environment? Surely this is a test of my ability to drive, not the environmental consequences of carbon based fuels.

Modern Life is Rubbish.

It's a test of your ability to give the government approved answers to a series of pointless questions for the most part. You should try the Hazard Perception Test - that's a complete farce.

I don't believe that it in any way tests your ability to spot potential or developing hazards, for one - I don't know about you but I move my head when I'm driving to see what's going on around me, rather than staring fixedly ahead in the manner the camera does in the HPT video. If you want to judge my ability to spot potential hazards you just have to watch the way I drive, not test my ability to click a mouse button at the right time in a pre-recorded film clip.

They missed out the correct answer.

E: Lean on the horn and yell "what do you think you're doing you " at the other driver whilst simultaneously giving him the universal sign of the onanist.

Or is it only MrsU who does that?
