People who know stuff about fridges?
Discussion
My fridge lately has been making a loud mechanical buzzing noise, which I've cured so far by moving the element in the freezer compartment. Its just vibrating slightly.
However, today it was buzzing like mad so I gave the entire fridge/freezer (its a full height jobbie) a good old nudge over a few degrees, at which point something decided to sound very much like it was saying "Thats it, no way am I cooling your crap now" and it promptly stopped making things cold.
Thing in fridge - quicktime
I pulled it out, gave that black thing a tap, and after a moment it suddenly decided to work again. The noise it made before was exactly like the noise in the video, only when I filmed that clip it was working properly. Note that the noise isn't from the plastic, its coming from inside that black thing.
Any ideas what went on? Is that big bit I'm shaking easy to replace, if it decides to go pop?

The big bit is the compressor. Its either donald ducked or its not. If it is then buy a new fridge - you cannot change it yourself.
They can get a bit noisy and still keep going. Sometimes the gas slowly leaks away, and since this also acts as the lubricant for the compressor then it all goes down hill pretty quickly (even if you can get them regassed)
Sorry!

Ah well it doesn't matter, if it does go pop that means I can replace it with an integrated fridge, and have a bit more worktop space (tiny kitchen)

Not entirely sure what's going on in the video sound-wise. I can't hear anything until you shake the plastic drip tray at which point there's a loud knocking noise. It sounds to me like the plastic rattling but are you saying it's coming from inside the black bit? That's not necessarily unexpected if you shake them and they're a bit old. If you don't provoke it, though, it'll probably go on for a while yet. Once it does go, as has been said, it'll cost about as much to replace it as it will to get a new fridge - they're expensive and they're a bugger to fit because of the refrigerant business and because the slightest speck of dirt getting into the pipework can bugger up the new one instantly...
As to the buzzing noises, is the compressor rubber-mounted and if so are the mounts perished? If it's not that the cure is probably to stuff bits of cardboard behind vibrating bits until they stop buzzing.

Well the 'noise' that it made when I shook it in the video - thats basically the noise that the fridge made when I tilted it, and it decided "feck you I'm not working now", but it lasted for a good few seconds and sounded a bit catastrophic
In a way I'd be happy if it died, as I bought the fridge when I was still renovating the house and didn't have a kitchen. When I got the kitchen done, I couldn't afford to scrap a nearly new fridge so kept it. If it dies now, I can get the kitchen man back and have a bit more worktop space, and an integrated fridge.

Probably a bit worn inside then, though given it's not making a noise in the rest of your video it's probably got a fair bit of life in it yet... buzzings being due to things vibrating against each other in general, given that you were stopping them temporarily by wiggling the pipework.
