I dont really drink coffee, never have, mainly because Im allergic to caffeine

A girl I know gave me one of those coffee makers with the sieve thingy that you push down when its finished brewing, and I finally got round to buying some roast and ground coffee last night (Tescos strong Columbian, rich and nutty - its not bad)

Just had a few cups, and I really do feel like Im coming up on magic mushroom tea, in quite a big way Would this be a normal reaction for anyone who isn’t used to drinking the stuff daily. I know, I know... the obvious response would be 'why are you drinking coffee if you're allergic to caffeine' – Its not a matter of life and death, so its not a big deal.

Am I likely to become immunized a bit if knock back a few mugs a day, does anyone else get such a strong 'perk' after a few mugs, and Im no coffee connoisseur - which blends are considered the best/preferred choice to the more seasoned coffee drinkers on PH?

You're allergic to caffeine and you've just drunk a load of coffee?

I worry about you Bob...

For my money, proper Jamaican Blue Mountain if I feel like splashing out otherwise generic After Dinner coffee, ideally very strong first thing in the morning.

The more bitter, the better.

I was never allowed it growing up and used to be quite sporty before I became slobby, I was always just a water drinker with the occasional tea. Yeah I know, one of those Im afraid. Im still 'not allowed' cofee after dinner parties if my girlfriend is sleeping over at my place.

God knows why she says I go to sleep, but my body doesnt. Clearly she doesnt know how to make the best of a bad situation...

Went though the whole gamut of coffee making styles a few years ago and bought all kinds of different coffee. Now i just like a cup of cafetier (sp) made coffee (ie wht you've got) and so far haven't found better than the Cafe Direct Rich dark roast (avaiable from all supermarkets). Common myth, mild roasts aren't as strong caffiene wise, wrong, they are in fact stronger as the roasting process breaks down some of the caffiene.

My favourite is strong Italian coffee such as Costa or Lavazza ( what I'm drinking right now)

trouble is its addictive ..... once I start its hard to give up , but if I am forced to go without for a few weeks I get used to it.

I avoid caffeine generally so, when I do have it, I have a similar reaction!

Coffee is a bit like wine - you've got to try several to find out which 'taste' you like (as long as you're not too high to recall which one you've tried!)

I've got an espresso machine on my desk and 9 coffee houses within a block of my office !!! That includes the Evil Empire (Starbucks)

I prefer a Dark Sumatra blend with a Restreto draw.

As for 'bitter', there is a good bitter (like dark chocolate) and a foul bitter if you stew the grounds or draw for too long.

Hands haven't stopped shaking for 15 years

Yes, but nothing like a cup of coffee.

Sporty people should drink coffee or tea - caffeine has only just come off the banned stimulants list for athletics. There used to be a maximum level you were allowed in your system (equivalent to 4 strong expressos drunk in under 5 minutes I think) but now you can have as much as you want.

I know. My point was that I was one of those "Just a glass of water thanks" people - the only fizzy drink I could have was sprite

That all changed when I discovered alcohol

Thats true, per pound, its about double.

However, per cup the levels of caffeine in tea and coffee are about comparable due to one requiring less tea than coffee to make a cup...

I'm a Lavazza man myself, regularly stoking up the espresso machine at home or at work with the stuff. However, the Italians that I work with tell me that the dog's danglies for espresso machines is in fact Illy.

For non-espresso machines, my drug of choice has always been Douwe-Egberts - wonderful coffee! Hardly surprising, if there's one thing the Dutch do well it's drugs, in all their forms...

Speaks volumes doesnt it

Remember when you were younger, there was always one kid who thought he knew best, didnt know where to draw the line at the best of times, and all it took was one can of coke and he'd be bouncing off the walls like a rubber ball running into people and... need I go on?
