fecked?

if I go here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/ I get a strange commercial site which looks a bit like the genuine one but is obviously not...what's going on? is my PC knackered?

funny enough, I clicked on a link someone posted up here on PH earlier on in the day and that's when it started behaving funny...

Looks ok to me as well.

You may have picked up something less than legit somehow thats hijacking your browser.

What makes you think thats happening? Ie what looks wrong on the linked BBC page?

You probably don't need to. They're all giggling away at your expense with the redirected dns for the bbc site.

Or you got a bug.

Run the usual suspects:

AVG (free virus checker)
Spybot S&D
Lavasoft Adaware

They're all free. Also make sure your firewall is switched on and working, by visiting www.grc.com and using the shieldsup pages.

the problem i'm getting is that if I clink on the link I posted above I get a site that pretends to be the BBC news site ie it looks as if they've just redesigned it a little...when you look closer you see links to mortgages, loans and ipods and suchlike.

I will have a little search for the thread which someone posted the link which I clicked on in a minute or two...

Don't worry - use AVG and Spybot (and Ad-aware if you're really worried).

If it's that pesky CWS thing you'll need CWShredder.
