We moan about the police but they do have a good record in solving murder cases.

Two in court over lawyer's death

Mr Rhys Pryce was returning home from a night out with colleagues
Two teenagers are due in court charged with robbing and murdering a City lawyer as he walked home.
Donnel Carty, 19, of Burrows Rd, north west London, and a 17-year-old from Middlesex are accused of stabbing Thomas ap Rhys Pryce to death.

The 31-year-old solicitor was fatally wounded in Bathurst Gardens, Willesden, north-west London a week ago.

The teenagers, arrested in Kilburn on Wednesday, are also accused of robbing another man on the same day.

The two will appear before West London Magistrates' Court on Friday.

A third youth arrested in connection with the inquiry has been released on bail.

Mr Rhys Pryce worked for corporate law firm Linklaters and had been out with colleagues in the City on the night he died.

Police said he left at about 2250 GMT and called his fiancée to let her know he was on his way home.

It is understood he caught the train to Kensal Green station then walked up College Road into Bathurst Gardens.

He was found at about 2345 GMT and pronounced dead soon after in hospital.

His family have launched a charity in his memory, of which his fiancée, parents and one of the partners at his law firm will be the trustees.

The Tom ap Rhys Pryce Memorial Trust will fund the education of some of society's poorest children.

Rather what is wrong with policing/sentencing that these youths can carry knifes with impunity.

I was reading the story about this in the "Evening Standard"...One day a happy couple with everything in life to look forward too and a wedding coming up in Septamber, then this happens,a pointless slaying of a decent member of society.
His poor fiancée has taken it so bad at the moment that she cant even talk about it

We need justice in this country

It's not carrying the knives that's the issue, it's stabbing people with them.

I really hope these two are the guilty ones. What can we do about people who are so far removed from normal society that they can rob a man and then stab him to death, despite his having given them everything? The death penalty would not help, becasue the sort of people who do this would regard that as just one fo the risks they run that makes their bahaviour more exciting. It's all part of the "be a hard man", "get rich or die trying" imbecile culture.

But carrying knives IS the issue. Normal people, when they leave the house, don't say, "Got my wallet, check. Got my keys, check. Got my mobile, check. Got my knife, check.".

You have got to wonder about the mentality of these people who feel they have to carry a weapon either for protection, status or because they know they are going to cause trouble.

Let's not get our hopes up. They need to be convicted first.

I'm not sure entirely what made them do it, but I will say one thing - there are certain areas of this country where a culture of crime has been allowed to flourish, and because it's 'culture', the lentilists would rather give it some kind of twisted moral priority than crack down on it.

Look at Brixton - every available surface either smashed of covered in graffitti, a monument to getting away with doing whatever the hell you like knowing full well you won't get caught.

No-one should have to grow up in an area like that. We need community policing. It's the only way for police officers to gain the respect of the general public, not chasing stats with an laser-hairdryer on a motorway somewhere.

These kind of sickening crimes are the most frightening of all in my honest opinion.

Totally random, and against a person who has lived a blameless, ordinary life.

A real public example needs to be be made of the perpetrators.

I agree Twincam that is indeed part of the problem, though Brixton itself is on the way up and your other comments probably applies more to oher places like parts of Deptford and Peckham.

There is a sense that enforcing the law in parts of the country is 'racist' whereas those who most suffer from the lax policing this produces are often ethnic minorities themselves.

Not totally 'random' AlexKP, a number of people are making a calculated risk living in certain areas of London which are said to be 'gentrifying'. He lived on a nice enough street but just around the corner was a very rough housing estate.

The main streets in Brixton are not much worse than other parts of London. However, end up on the back roads....

Well sadly it isn't just deprived areas, I live in one of the so called nicest areas in the midlands 'Solihull' and there are still there of an evening trying to wreck your evening out!!

There is no respect for people, the police, teachers or even parents anymore!

Oi Slaphead - I carry a knife most of the time and thanks to the nanny state I now learn that it is also illegal,as the knife blade locks. It happens to be a leatherman multi-tool and I use it most days, either to keep the TVR operational or as a 'safety' aid should I have a problem when out on my boat.

Please explain why I, a 51 year old 'normal' law-abiding, tax-paying member of society should be criminalised for carrying it in an hopeless attempt to control the actions of the 'crack smoking, thieving spongers' that form the under-class of Tony's New Britain?

You may like to live in a society where the state controls all aspects of your life, but I certainly don't.

Cheers

Graham
