Is there somewhere online that I can search for births, deaths and marriages?

www.ancestry.co.uk/

I recommend www.genesreunited.co.uk as a good starting place if you want to research your family tree. I started doing mine on New Years Day, I put a few posts on and the same day got 5 replies from people helping me find out the information I wanted.

I have used these two sites the most.

Depends where your ancestors are from. For example if they are Scottish there are some great sites for doing research.

The best starting points are:

freebmd.rootsweb.com
www.familysearch.org
