Todays minor dilemma for the collective's opinion. It's my eldest's birthday today The ex wants to spend time with our daughter as do I, so the plan is to rendezvous at Pizza Hut later, have pizza with her, her sister and two of her friends and then go our seperate ways. Tuesday evening is normally the start of my time with the kids, but I'm pretty flexible about things. This way every one gets more out of the time available. All was fine.... Until.

Apparently her BF has thrown all his toys out of the pram. I can see his point, might look a bit too cosy etc. but he's never made any effort to be particularly friendly despite my attempts at conversation. I'm kinda tempted to invite him along, but why should I? The main thing is I don't want any sort of an atmosphere or distractions while I'm celebrating my daughters birthday. It should be about her, not about any adult squabbles.

It's too late to invite my GF along so it would be just me and them as a couple. My ego is big enough to handle that, but should I make the offer? Part of me thinks I'm rewarding a bloke who normally blanks me for behaving like a spoilt child, but part of me wants an easy life for my daughter.

This is not about the merits or otherwise of Pizza Hut, that's my daughters choice

Like you said its your daughters day not yours your ex's or her bf's. Just swallow your pride and enjoy the night for your daughters sake. You dont have to talk to the bf but make an effort and if he doesn't want to then its no skin off anyone's nose.

I think the main issue is would your daughter want him there? If not, it's her day so he can sod off and throw his toys around somewhere else.

exactly.

i'm sure that it would be nice for your daughter having all parties behaving sensibly in front of her on such a special occasion and if that means inviting the insecure tosser then so be it IMHO

Why should it even be on your mind? You don't live with him.
I'm more concerned that you've agreed to spend time in a public place with your ex!

There'll be witnesses if you shoot her....

Definitely invite him. How old is your eldest? Perhaps you should ask her?

and just to compound how much of adult you really are you could always slip the chef £20 to load his pizza with chilis and jalapinos.

I agree. Not got time to write a whole lot today but would also ask your daughter what SHE would like.

Best behaviour and be the great dad that I am sure you are, if he decides to act the then that is what he will look like. No consolation if it puts a stain on her day but it wont be your fault.

It sounds like he's a bit insecure about you. Why don't you invite him out for a pint at some point for a man-to-man chat? (Well, coiffeur to man). You're always going to be in the picture so he'd best sort himself out really.

Invite him along! Doesn't sound like you will be bothered by his presence. If it helps to keep the peace all round!

Gets my vote too. If it doesn't go some way towards appeasing your relationship with him (which is, of course, beneficial to the kids) at least you can relax in the knowledge you're a bigger man than he is.

Oh, and happy birthday to JuniorBliarOut from the PH collective!

Her Dad drives a gay car - don't you think she's suffered enough? Invite the fool along and give the bairn a nice day.

A fairly resounding "do it" then. Ex has been texted to invite him if she wants. Cheers chaps and chapesses

Harumph, he was invited, said he might turn up after work and then promptly didn't show. I reckon it was all for show.

Ok so he was a no-show, fine, his loss.

The important question is..... did your daughter have a good time?
