Now that the Westminster Clock has begun ticking, and he is at last lining himself up proper for the PM's job (and another election victory), he has now decided that we should fly the flag with pride after all. After years of tacit censorship, bordering on a political intifada of said flag from this bunch of snake oil salesmen (and women), I really feel quite nauseous. For my 2p worth, I stopped recognising this political emblem some time ago, as far as I am concerned the damage is done, he can have his Saltire and I'll have my Red Cross.

Anyone else for an Un-United Kingdom?

One cannot help but be sceptical of Gordon Brown's new found patriotism, particularly when his own party have done so much to denigrate those having pride in their country.

It is probably a cynical exercise to emphasise that he is British rather than purely Scottish, in preparation for his coronation as the next Labour leader.

Another stupid gimmick. well done for finding the most pointless thing to bang on about. Still it takes the heat off the education minister! and it will give something for the BBC to do a program about.
Just a shame they did think how patriotic pubs and clubs were by asking for extentions on 'St Georges Day'! Oh no, they had to remove some of the flags.
Usless tts! As soon as they go away the better.

If they want us all to fly Union Jacks in our gardens, they'd better change the local planning regulations then.

They're worried because they realise that having done everything they can to break up the Union and empower the Scots (how patronising is that?), we English now won't vote for a Scot.

I really doubt they'll be in for another term. I hope.

Is anybody going to vote for this boring tw4t? He reminds me of Ted Heath, 'a shiver looking for a spine to run up'.

Given Scottish and Welsh devolution - I'd be more than happy for an English Parliament for England -

Local taxes collected in each country to fund spending in each ..... and we wouldn't have the likes of John -the hypocrite - Reid meddling in exclusively English affairs.

edit : and Labour would instantly lose their majority in England.

It's just more froth and spin.

It won't amount to anything.

I'm all for people showing pride in their country, as long as it is not "fake" jingoism and hollow flag waving.

His ideas for a national day of celebration is all well and good - I am appalled though that he wished to have it on our Day of Rememberance. How about in mid summer, Queens birthday perhaps?

Recently de-classified documents revealed that the Wilson Government attempted to abolish Remembrance Day. These younger Marxist c*** brothers want to do it all over again.

More and more of their proposals are looking like scorched earth policies to me. All they've got is four years left; they're on the run and they know it.

wouldnt it be bad fortune if at the next election the "PM in waiting" had spent so long waiting and the tories actually got in?

Any Englishman that votes for a Scottish PM is irresponsible if they truly value the tenets of a democratice principle. In my opinion, ever since the tartan mafia gave the 'vote of destiny' to those patriots North of Hadrians wall, Scots have no further place in our parliment. We're either united or we're not. Personally I wish we were, but lets face it, we no longer are thanks to the man who had too many debts to pay off at our expense.

PS: Should Edinburgh get its unilateral hands on the oilfields, I wonder if we can have our investment money back in the process?
