Does anyone believe in this? I think its basic premise is that if you do good things, good things will happen to you, and vice-versa.

I am not sure about it, but I would imagine that most 'bad' people (murderers, rapists, etc) are unhappy and that 'bad' stuff happens to them in turn. Fred West = hanged, Dahmer = battered to death on a toilet, Hitler = shot and burned, Saddam = watch this space.

On the other hand, lots of 'good' people seem to be happy, and I assume this is because something good is happening to them.

What do you think? Can someone be an evil b*stard and still be happy?

I think the idea is that karma may also get you in the next life.

I like to thing there is something in Karma, but i reckon it really comes down to the fact that doing nice things for others makes you happy inside and a more positive person. Good things are more likely to happen to you if you are positive..

I can't say I'm too knowledgable on the teachings behind karma, but on a simple level I think that it is without a doubt the case that good people have more good things happen to them then bad people and visa versa.

I think it works more on a personal level in that people will be nicer which brings its range of benefits.

Of course good things will still happen to bad people and bad things to good people.

Just had a quick look at a Krishna site (they're the Karma dudes). The good news, there's only four rules (better than 10 commandments, right?).

The bad news, the rules are:

1. No gambling (could probably live with that, so far, so good)
2. No intoxicants including tea and coffee
3. No meat, fish or eggs
4. No illicit sex

My sweet lord!

Ime not too at home with people throwing rules at others in the quest to have a certain criteria to set before you can be at their idea of something.

Forgive me for being Mr obvious but i would of thought Karma comes from a state of mind surely,a relaxed open minded attitude will give you mainly good Karma,a greedy, rude, impatient and aggressive attitude will give you bad karma.
I would of thought its all to do with feedback to your own and others attitudes.

I think it's really simple.

The more good things you do, the more good there is in the world, which results in the world becoming an ever so slightly better place to live.

It's best not to do good things expecting good things to happen in return, though, otherwise the disappointment if they don't may counter the effect of kharma.

I'm not a buddhist, in fact I think all organised religion is pretty suspect, but kharma makes me a happier, more positive person.
