Any PH accountants working late?
Discussion
Boss has just left the office, so time for a quick PH session.
Probably stay at my desk till 9pm ish, when I will go home and plan for the weekend...
... of working!
I don't expect much sympathy round here, still life could be worse - I could be a tax man! (in fact I was, but then realised why the pub emptied when I walked in!)
Memo to all - get your tax return info to your accountant pdq, we like to get out a little in winter! (My Z4 hasn't seen much action recently - roll on February for some much-missed hooning)

here I am
Didn't work that late today
But I will be working all day Saturday if that makes you feel better.

Yep, you have my sympathies!
I have a 31st Dec 2005 year end for a subsidiary of a plc, and the audit had to start this Mon 9th Jan in order to get our figures in to HQ for the group accounting / audit purposes. Which means I had a whole 4 working days last week to do everything, and was naturally expected to give up all of last weekend to finish the work. Well I didn't, but 95% was done, which was a better result than previously where I've phoned the auditors Monday morning to say "Please Give Me One More Day! Please!!".
I know Jan is bad for the self assessment guys, which I fortunately don't have any involvement in other than doing my own.

what actually happens if you dont file a tax return?
If you owe some tax you will be fined £100 (or the amount of tax if this is less).
If you haven't filed by 31 July you get another £100 fine.
If you don't file they may issue a "determination" whereby they basically guess how much tax you owe them and then begin legal proceedings to collect it.
