Out of interest I got some of their music after seeing the lead singer in the Celebrity BB house. I was already to laugh at how bad they are, but bugger me if my stereotype has been abolished.

I always remember people saying how album xyz came out at just the right time and spoke to volumes to them - it showed someone else was going through the same things and I always thought "cough, bollox, cough". This album, Over The Counter Culture is doing that for me as I type, which is very, very cool. One song, Weekend Revolution is actually echoing how I’m feeling at this precise moment in time.

I'll admit it's possibly not the best music ever made, and possibly the lead singer is an arrogant, self-righteous, pedantic, stuck up fame leach (I don't know, I haven't watched CBB other than to laugh at the start), but their music has impressed me immensely! I have a sneaking suspicion that the current younger generation will latch on the band and they will become very big in the near future just as bands in the past have been used by respective generations!

I wish I’d found out about the band earlier and not have to admit I learnt of them through CBB

You need to start watching Soccer AM, they've been on there two or three times now... friends of the program, so to speak. They've had a few other good up and coming bands that most people haven't heard of on the show too.

Re: The lead singer... from watching more than just the opening program of CBB, Preston actually seems to be quite a chilled out knowledgeable working class bloke, not that arrogant at all.

Anyhow, I'm glad that you have now discovered them, by whatever source.. enjoy!

Soccer AM, hmm, I despise watching football!

Most of the bands I know of will never be up-and-coming. They will forever remain on the outskirts of obscurity!

It's actually more like Tiswas for footie fans than Match of the Day... the girlfriend hates football but even she has been known to watch Soccer AM (Sky Sports 1, Sat 0900-1200).

And therein lies my problem with The Ordinary Boys and other such bands - they associate themselves with the football 'lads' culture, which quite frankly winds me up (but i admit that is only IMHO)

I got "Over the Counter Culture" when it came out.

Not bad music, at all. Quite refreshing to hear that style of music amongst the general trash of today.

There was lots of hype around the Ordinary Boys around the release of Over The Counter Culture (which I feel was justified) they were amongst one of 2003/4 bands to watch out for. Then for some reason there was a lack of excitement over the second album and they seemed to have dropped off the radar a bit since. Mind you thats probably more of a reflection of how the music business turns out 'a hot new band' every two weeks or something these days.....

I would suggest, much like many others, that the Arctic Monkeys are a good tip right now - a good mix of decent tunes and amusing lyrics.

I still find it a bit strange that Preston is appearing on CBB though....
