Any proficient PSPers here ?

I got one for Christmas and am having a wee problem with it.

I created a folder called music on the memory stick and dragged and dropped some MP3 files into it, they play fine and there is no problem there, but, I also converted a DVD MP4 format and tried doing the same, both to a folder called Video and also direct to the main PSP folder, but when I go to Movies in the menu it says there are no videos on the memory stick.

What am I doing wrong ??

Easy.

You need to correctly create the folder for the MP4s on your memory stick.

Create a folder at the root of the Memory Stick called MP_ROOT. Then, within that folder, create one called 100MNV01.

Video files must be placed in the 100MNV01 folder, and be named M4VXXXXX.mp4, with the XXXXX part being the video number. For example, your first file could be M4V00001.mp4. You can number the files whatever you want, though every file must follow this convention, M4V followed by five numbers and ending with .mp4.

Hope this helps!

Cheers Greg

I am off to Norway for a couple of days so will not be able to try it until the weekend, i had hoped to take a couple of movies with me but as i said in the launch post couldn't figure it out.

BTW, does the manual give these instructions as i couldn't see much about loading movies, only playing them.

Thanks Again

Nope!!

It assumes we're all good boys and girls and will religiously buy UMDs to watch instead of ripping our own.

Bit cack, really.

What did you use to rip your movies? PSP Video 9? Thats what we use, although it can be a bit tempermental, I've found.

Glad to be of service,
Greg

I used a programme called ImTOO, found it on the internet and it was a free download so I thought I would give it a go, unfortunately the free download only allows you to convert 5 mins of any item , so I paid for the full download which was £18, seems to work OK, a bit slow though.

I say it seems to work OK but as I couldn't get the PSP to show them I won't know until the weekend.

Cheers

PSP Video 9 is your best bet as it automatically converts it to the right file name. Its also easy to fiddle with the settings to get the right mix of picture and sound quality.

You need to create a .THM file that sits in the same folder as the MP4 file this allows the movie to show on the PSP menu this gets created when you use XOOM movies, or PSP Movie creator etc. These pieces of software don't cost much and can be brought or downloaded.

Once you have the required software you may have to download Slysoft which will allow you to rip your DVD's to PSP format. It's all to do with legal stuff but if you own the DVD you can transfer it to other formats. I mean it's not as if once ripped you would load it onto a mates PSP for him to watch, would you.
