Hi guy's,

As part of my new years resolution (and after 6 months of being single) I'm determined to get out and meet more people (mainly of the female variety!! ).

The problem being most of my mates are married or have moved away and I seem to be either at work or the gym (and the fact I'm well out of practice on the chatting up side of things!!) , so thought I might give this a go!.

So has anyone tried any of these online dating agencies? and what degree of sucess?

I assume they work on a private messaging system - but not being very good with the old written work (unless its technical or contractual!!) how would you go about sending a message introducing yourself to someone you don't know without sounding like a complete psycho, numptie or worse - desperate?

Cheers

Chris

In my (limited) experience, the internet is great place to find people, but not to meet them.

In other words, don't spend too long talking online with potential partners because it can give you a false impression of them.

Edited to say: If you do want to find a big trucker from Telford, it's probably the right place...

No fit ladies at your gym?

In my experience it's an excellent place to meet the opposite sex, not that I was looking (except for the odd sneaky glance at the muscle-bound chaps!), so much so I had to leave because I kept getting 'hassled', even by a couple of over-friendly girls in the changing room!

My m8 met his wife through online dating, went out with a few munters then hit the jackpot. Thinking about it myself actually, as I'm a few months single - as long as I don't pick you I think it'l be fine (you're a man right??)

Better off doing the gym or salsa-ing and getting about in person, nothing like a bit of physical attraction to kick it off .

Lets face it we're all shallow even though we pretend we're not.

I seem to get too engrossed in my work out - that makes me sound quite sad (DOH!!!), haven't tried my luck yet (read: lacking courage....).

My friend has fallen in love with a guy she met online earlier this year. I've never seen her so happy. A male friend has met some lovely ladies through dating sites, though not gone as far a fully fledged dating with any of them. He is now seen as one of the young lady's best mates (and she is a babe).

Personally, I prefer the gym

I used to be an admin for two well known dating sites a few years back. It was funny just reading peoples problems (the ones they were asking admin for help in that is).

To cut a very long story short, most people that use these sites are either:

1) Regular competetitors for world class eat-athons

2) Are currently mid way through their 'Care in the Commumnity Program'

3) Have never actually engaged in a conversation with members of the opposite sex

4) Do not realsie that there is a real world outside of their 'virtual' one

5) Think 'Social Skills' are a Uni course for which they didn't have the necessary entrance criteria

6) Always send the same repetetive boring mail to their stunning pictured ideal matches, who envariably ending up being 24 stone Sue from the Bingo hall or Mick, a Coded Welder from Bromley.

We had a good laugh there but there was always trouble. Sending messages via PC is the same as by txt message, and most messages are mistaken for something completely different which ends in tears at best or stalking, rape, and even murder.

Don't even go there

I must confess, the thought had crossed my mind to have a punt on one of these sites too - but where to start?

If I had the guts I'd go along to a local speed dating thing or something - but I dont

Am on a couple of internet sites at the mo....why?
Split 2 months back and have realised that the engineering industry has no laydees whatsover. Zilch.

Furthermore had a 6 month relationship that was a result of the internet. She was great, and I'm no miner either.

So how is it going now am back on the market? Dating wise am having great fun with meeting the normal way (ie at the pub, gym, hobbies, dogging sessions (Peugeot 407SW's with the moon rooves work best), witch duckings etc)

As for online dating, I wonder how anyone meets as most are stuck at their pc talking shite on msn! And there are the perennially single mongs with dribble patches who have resorted to the net. Don't even ask about what they do on cam. Please don't!

There are no good parties nowadays, and most of us work too hard without leaving time for any play, so I do see the net lending fate a helping hand. My only advice is to meet quickly after speaking to one another on phone (no texting! text is the same as msn: slow and open to misinterpretation) and only talk to people with pics as there is no use in talking to an anonymous munter.

I have now met a nice laydee. From my local.........

Yes. And 'normal' dating agencies. And personal ads.

Met me Julie on Udate, been together 4 years yesterday.

Neither of us is fat, retarded, socially inept or a stalker.

It's just another way of gaining an introduction.

Get on with it!
