Phone Unlocking - Help/advice required

Need some help. I got one of my lads a Nokia 3220 camera phone for Christmas. The add said it "sim free" so I assumed it was unloked to all networks. Imagine his disappointment when on christmas day he opens his present, and finds that he can't use it
I have tried diferent sim cards in it and they all say "Emergency use only" What make is worse is that his brother got the same phone& that works perfectly.

So, co cut a long story short, i need an unlocking code for thi phone. Not eer having done it before I am asking if anyone else has had this done to their phone, how easy is it, or is it something that has to be done in a Retail shop ?

Sorry to hijack but does anyone know of a cheap nokia pay as you go that is sim free?

For the unlocking there are a few things on e-bay where you can buy the unlock codes or bits of software to download that generate an unlock code (however i tried it on an old US mobile and managed to get it wrong 5 times so now it needs unlocking by cable only )

Its dead easy and I have done it loads of times - upgraded phone and sell the old one off on eBay! Sold a load of phones that way and everyone is happy. Should be pretty much self-explanatory.
