So, I rent 'Batman Begins' from the DVD shop. Get it home, get 7 minutes in and GHADGIHAISIDSH__%££_ and the DVD player spits it out.

Take it back, get another one despite the girl behind the counter asking if I had 'one of those dodgy DVD players that sometimes doesn't play discs', get 1 hour 40 minutes in, and %£"!"£$%EJTJWEVFDLJL it does it again.

So basically, I'm not even going to watch the other film I got. They're both going back tomorrow, with my membership card, and no money. From now on, its either the cinema, television, or piracy.

Why can't idiots who rent DVDs take better care of them ffs, so they don't end up scratched to buggery

I check them everytime before I leave. Scatches, grubby marks etc. If it's no good it goes back before I leave. Been caught out so many times before.

You do realise that if you rented Batman Begins from Blockbuster, you could have bought a copy for £1.25 more....

(Bearing in mind this is a 5 for £25 quid offer on ex rental DVDs, but most of the current and recent releases are included in the offer...)

Considering the cost I normally buy rather than rent DvDs. This would explain why I'm running out of bookcase space though!

The local Blockbuster to me is awful. feck all movies, feck all of the time. The amount of crap on their shelves is unreal. I find my self renting the 3 for a 5'er lot, and watching older classics!

join lovefilm.com - I did and have been very impressed, if you watch a lot of films, its a lot cheaper than rentals/cinema and I haven't had any problems with any of their discs

Another option is to buy the DVD of anything that you might be interested in, watch it and then sell it on eBay for 1 or 2 pounds less.

I do this in preferance to the cinema. Even if I keep the DVD it's cheaper.

If you think you will watch a DVD more than once just buy it its cheaper than renting in the long run.

I bought Batman Begins but have watched it three times, imagine how much it would have cost to rent it each time

Yes, I normally buy the films I really like now, but still rent films I'm not so sure about. I hate Blockbusters, never got the films you want to rent in, and when you have it, the Chavs who rented it before seem to have been playing frisby with it, before sticking it up their rectum! We now use Choices Video, they are cheaper and you can rent out the films for longer, plus the ex-rentels to buy are as cheap as renting them!
I have found though, especially after this Xmas, that we have well over 200 DVD films, it looks silly and too excessive (and takes up too much space in our overflowing DVD cabinet), I long for the day when we can store films on hard drives or solid state media, i-Pod stylee - I have my whole music collection on my PC, the huge Hi-Fi is now in the loft, with I could do the same with our DVD collection. (I am sure you could now, but not easily)
