Ok...so after getting lost several times int he middle of france over xmas i have decided to gte tom tom with a pda.

Can anyone clarify what is best to get as far as this....

eg i assume it is better to get bluetooth version?

what is a good pda to get to use with tom tom 5? ie one with a good screen size etc etc that is not too expensive.

I mainly want the pda version so that it is easily transportable rather than leaving in the car all the time etc etc.
Not sure that i woudl use the poda for much more than gps etc

Any recommendations for the pda?

This topic has been covered on here before, so a quick search should sort you out.

I use an Ipaq 5450 with a Leadtek bluetooth GPS receiver. The software is Tomtom3 (yet to upgrade to 5) and apart from apparently driving accross fields when you visit Heathrow terminal 5, it is great.

TT5 allows you to use full postcodes, whereas TT3 is the 1st 4 digits only.

Why not get a dedicated system?

IMHO the PDA / BT receiver / software solutions are a whole heap of hassle. Too much to carry, if something goes wrong is it because of that last thing you installed on the PDA?, etc...

Get yourself an all in one solution, much better.

Try TomTom One for a basic unit, or the Garmin i-range.

Also, have a look in the GPS section.

I have not had any software conflicts, but that could be because I don't tend to run anything alongside the satnav program. If you do not plan to use the PDA for anything other than GPS, then I agree with NiceCupOfTea, but for little more money, you get a great toy, with almost endless applications.

The thing that concerns me is the size of the toomtom unit...if i drive to somewhere i then have to carry this unti around....isn't it a bit bulky to stick in your jacket pocket?

I am tempted more by a total pda/tomtom solution because of this....ie the pda should fit in the jacket pocket easier and therefore will have less chance of getting stolen.
