Need to get my hands on a Diamond Floor Cutter for 10 inch concrete..
Can anyone help?
Cheers,
Charlie.
My advice would be to not sod about trying to hire. Firstly 10" depth of cut puts you into a very heavy machine and will be specialist not run of the mill. Secondly you don't hire the blade as such, you pay for how much wear you put on it and when you return it'll scare the tits off you cause you won't quite have used enough water cooling round it etc. Thirdly there are dozens of different grades of diamond blade about and if you get supplied the wrong one for the grade of concrete and reinforcement you're cutting the diamond disappears in a matter of seconds.
Much better to look around for a specialist company (loads of them about) and accept they know what they're talking about, it always works out cheaper.
I assume your trying to cut out for a pit of sorts and you might actually find it cheaper to take a rough edge back and reshutter the face?
Having been involved with the hiring of these things I'd agree with (most of) that. Getting a specialist in to do it will be broadly comparable on price and indeed stands a good chance of being cheaper, especially if something were to go wrong with the DIY operation - which it will if you don't have someone with you who's done it before.

Yes, I think i will get a professional outfit in to do it, we plan to cut the concrete into sections and then lift it out, We have tried breaking it with a breaker and digger, but it hardly made a dent.

How big was/is the digger?
15tonne rubber duck (wheeled excavator) with a suitable hammer(breaker) should make a nice tidy job of the slab. Our ducks get quite a bit of work doing similar in factories, removing slab sections, electric motor plynths etc etc.
Floor saws are quite expensive, If access permits a bigger digger may work out cheaper..

Charlie as RR says we need to check that your equipment is up to the job.
Perhaps if you were to post a piccy or two of it, I'm sure you'd get nothing but useful comments from the PH massive

3 tonne was the biggest we can get in the building..

If you are breaking out the slab near your RR set up, then a machine mounted breaker would not be wise, due to vibration? Even if vibration is not a problem you will need the get a saw cutting firm involved to cut the perimeter of the area to be broken out anyway?
If vibration is a problem then as said, get a diamond drilling firm involved. Get them to do a reccie on the job first, and maybe sheet your equipment up if it is near the work area. The firm should send a 2nd man (will cost you more but worth it) to vac the slurry up from the road saw, otherwise you end up with a right mess. Depending on access and and lifting equipment availble, work out the mass of concrete you can safely lift out per 'peice' - concrete density is normally 2.4 - 2.5 ton per m3 depending on level of reinforcement. Then get the saw cutting firm to drill and fix lifting eyes at the appropriate distance apart so to allow you to lift the pieces out.
Hope this helps.

May be worth considering nonex explosives. See what your guys says and give me a shout.

Just had a thought, depending on your location a demolition firm with a skidsteer loader with saw head and big hammer (approx the same size as one fitted to 15tonne duck) will probly be the cheapest/easiest option.
We have been cross hired to outfits up here (north wales + liverpool) using similar kit - cutting out 300mm mezzanine(sp?) floors in steelworks and paper factories. When access is a pain in the arse skidsteers are the way forward.
