I've not heard anything about this but I knew that they would use a spurious "safety" argument to justify their lazyness. Isn't it a shock that they are off at New Year rather than a week later?

Why don't LU take out a contract on Bob Crow?

Surely it would be cheaper than suffering all these strikes. I'll start the whip round.....

the funny thing is, NatWest are sponsoring free tube travel on NYE betweem 23:45 and 05:00 so people feel all warm and fuzzy towards them because of their generosity...when in actual fact it's now become a totally useless gesture I bet there are some bank chiefs spitting nails at the thought of the RMT!

Either that or with my extra special Xmas cynic hat on. Natwest knew this would happen publically make the fuss about look what we are doing, then agree cancellation redemption charges from RMT/LU and so when the strike occurs, Bob Crow receives small xmas bonus from Natwest, Natwest get all money back but good publicity for free.

hmm maybe that's taking a conspiracy theory too far even for Xmas & pistonheads.

Ah...hang on - 24hr strike for NYE...is it possible it'll be 00:00 to 23:59? Because if so then people will still be able to get home!

Nah...who'm I trying to kid...they'll do it for maximum disruption, p'ss the general public off!

I don't understand why we let this shit happen?

How come they can't just make you sign a form accepting the terms of employment and allowing you to leave their employ the second you become unhappy with the rules?

Its not like we need train drivers/ bus drivers with twenty years experience is it? Become a train driver until you don't like it anymore and move on... I hate all this striking shit, just get a better job if you don't like the one your in.

If they want to strike that's fine - but I want to see ALL of them outside the Tube Stations around their fires for the duration of the strike....otherwise I might be cynical and think that they are just skiving...

according to capital radio news it starts on midday NYE for 24 hours...so it does smell a bit fishy - and i'm not talking about the contents of baldricks apple crumble

tube drivers get over 30k for sitting in a cab and pushing a lever forwards and backwards, and pressing a few other buttons it seems...

Don't forget the rather generous pension schemes, or the 60 days plus holiday per year, or the miniscule working week!

and many of them can't even do that properly, judging from the way they accelerate into bends and brake at the last minute into stations.

according to the news again they might be on their way to resolve the strike...I bet the talks will fail at the last moment so they can still have their skive!

Why does Bob Crow wear those bloody ridiculous hats??

Doesn't he own a mirror?

He doesn't need to wear a stupid cap to prove he's a first class tw@t

It takes ages and lots of money to train new train drivers, and the wisdom of SWITCH NOPUNS crash courses in train driving is questionable at best. To make a train move is easy... to drive one safely in all conditions does require long experience. Letting old drivers go and training new ones in their place was a big mistake made by many mainline TOCs after privatisation.
