Astonishing. Seven years each? They nearly killed one of the kids.

My mind just can't take this kind of stuff in.

Well they didn't actually kill them.

If it were that sentence plus sterilisation then it would be a just one.

It still disappoints me that there isn't some form of licensing before people are allowed to breed

As an adoptive parent I entirely agree.

As a friend of mine who is Social Worker once said the only qualification you need to be a parent is to have sex.

I'm shocked - how can people - well they are not people, sit there knowing their children are starving, surely her maternal instics should have taken over. I know mine would have if I thought a child of mine was hungry - I'd go without to feed them!

It's so upsetting!

As a cab driver picking up all types i can inform you there is another world out there that a lot of us are not aware of,until something goes t1ts up like what happened in the USA in N Orleans, then it exposes it.
There is a poor third world existance in this country(for what ever reason),most of us pass them of as chavs but even amongst the chavs there is a lower type of chav.

Fact is we havent got enough childrens homes for the juvenile outcasts of this country and its not until you get talking to proffesionals in these sort of areas that you realise how bad things are,the sad fact is this is just the tip of the iceberg.

indeedy
you must respect that some parents parent as they have been parented. whether it be right or wrong.
either these two where the result of abuse or they had special needs or they were just low life scum.
I would imagine they were parenting in the way they had been taught as children. it is not correct or indeed acceptable.
but it does happen..

Sadly I believe you are right.

There are sections of our population we would simply be better off without.

No it wouldn't

They are simply the product of the state policy of paying those least able to be good parents to have children.

I believe in some circles a baby is referred to as a 'welfare cheque' and that's all these children were to them; a way of getting free housing and cash benefits.

What we should do is lock up all the politicians and civil servants responsible for this disgraceful state of affairs. They are the people most responsible.

There are many instances of this in South Yorkshire, but usually to a lesser degree. I have been in houses in a similarly disdusting state, and I frequently see kids who are filthy, unwashed, in smelly dirty clothes. I saw a family last night who smelt of unwashed clothes and fouls body odour so much that I had to open my windows for 20 minutes to get rid of the stench before the next patient came in!

The appalling brainlessness of some parents never fails to astonish me. no wonder there's a generation of feral scumbags being grown in this country - it's parental skills (or lack thereof) which is the problem.

Spot on, Alex.

What amazed me last night was the BBCs slant on this. Not the pieces of shit parents, oh no, but the failings of social services to spot what was happening? The mere fact that the parents treated the kids like caged animals was glossed over, and a bunch of apologising council workers instead spluttering on tv about how much better they'd try to do in future.

I despair. Is our licence fee funding this crap?

An appaling story. However, I just want to pick up on this point here Piglet. How would you plan to enforce such a system?

Compulsory tubal ligation at birth, only removed when parenting skills reach a sufficiently high standard. Also, assign a Social Worker to every family in Britain. Compulsory vasectomy for anyone who prefers Family Fortunes to Mastermind, anyone who owns a caravan, anyone who has any Burberry, Donnay, Kappa, or Naff clothing. Anyone seen in Poundland/Aldi/Supasaver stores. Anyone with a monochrome tattoo. Anyone with a Pit Bull.

See? It's not that difficult!

Very sensible policies for a much happier Britain.

I have said this before, but the best way to sort this is contraception by injection ( 6 month effect ) for male and female at the point of benefit handout.

Seriously you wish there were some form of contraception that could only be removed once you'd proven yourself fit to be a parent. I've got an 8-week old daughter, I love her so much I don't have words. I don't know how anyone could neglect a child like that. Yes she can be hard work sometimes, when she's crying and you don't know why. But people like that should be shot. their human rights. To my mind you need to behave in a humane way to have human rights.

You are not the only one!

I'd have them subject to all sorts of psycological tests as well.

But how to enforce it? China have been looking into this problem for years to stop their population growth........
