What do you have for breakfast?.. do many people still have the traditional "English"?

Im Diabetic and on a restricted diet. Its really boring, looking for ideas for breakfast, has to be low fat and low sugar.

Try making your own cereal, buy plain wheat flakes and oats and mix with organic dried fruit (other stuff has sulphur on it) - cranberries and sultanas are nice. Is dried fruit OK? Otherwise banana on it is OK. You can also try this with yoghurt if you like it.

Usually a bacon roll & cup of tea but trying to be a bit healthier the last couple of weeks so switched to Kellogs Fruit and Fibre (not keen on the raisins) and one of those actimell drinks & cup of tea

Are you newly diagnosed with Diabeties? If so, I understand your worries. In the early days, it takes very little to get your sugar levels up and get pretty strict with your diet. I'm taking medication for Cholesterol, Sugar and Blood Pressure now, and 4 years in, so long as I'm reasonably sensible - I can eat pretty much anything.

In terms of low fat, low sugar breakfast - I would invest in a George Foreman type Grill (gets excess fat out of almost anything) and make your own burgers, grilled mushrooms and tomatoes to accompany a poached egg or two on granary toast. Black pepper is fine for you, as is a small portion of beans.

In terms of cereals, I learned quite quickly to enjoy simple Corn Flakes and Weetabix again - remember you can add sweetner if yu need to. Also small quantities of fruit are good.

There are some organic ones like the Four Seeds range that have no added sugar.

That's great and much better than anything you can buy in a bag, I'll bet.

I usually have alpen but I think I'll make my own now.

I was naughty and had some toasted sultana loaf this morning.

Porridge. Wack it in the microwave for two minutes on full power. Job's done. Don't bother with that ohitssosimple crap either; the oats are just the same, just the finer left over oats re-packaged so that the manufacturer can charge a higher price for less of exactly the same product. Good marketing tho'
