I just had a call from my tearful girlfriend who has just been hit from behind at a junction Fortunately she is OK -

I'm writing this down so that I dont forget what she has just told me -

She was stationary in a queue of traffic and was hit by a 'big car' (4x4?) which pushed her into the car in from and then that one into the car in front of that.

She got the guy behinds details and Reg, but then she gave hers to the woman in the car in front of her.

by the sounds of it the car is pretty Fed, but at least most importantly my girlfriend is OK.

any advice on how best to deal with this insurance wise?

it sounds like the guy who hit her is responsible for the whole thing, but the other two cars (it would seem) don't have his details to claim.

I'm off home to check that she is OK, but would appreciate any advice, as neither of us have been in this situation before

Thanks.

Oh dear, I do hope she is ok, is not nice that!

Basically, from when it happened to me, I had to claim the cost of my repairs from the guy that hit me, and the person I hit claimed from my insurance, and so on, but my insurance also claimed the cost of the damage my car did off the guy who hit me.

Still lost my no claims status tho

Hi,

Sorry to hear about the RTA. All innocent parties will claim off the guilty/negligent party. If you need, we can handle the claim for you. Please feel free to PM me and I'll see what I can sort out for you.

regards

Steve

Yeah - as has been mentioned, you each claim off the person behind you and in each case (apart from the tit at the back) the costs from the person in front are passed on as part of the claim to the person behind, so eventually idiot in the 4x4 gets to pay for the lot (but with lots of paperwork involved for the respective insurance companies)

NCB shouldn't be affected long term, but renewal premium *will* proably increase as a result. Ticks me right off, that does - there's literally nothing you could have done to prevent being involved in the incident but still you're perceived as a higher risk for some reason...

I hope she's OK.

She does need to ensure that both she and the person in front of her are clear on their claim forms and witness statements that she did not rear end the car in front of her before she was hit from behind. They must be sure that there was one impact and that was when the guy from behind her shunted her into the car in front. No doubt the bloke behind is working on his story now that he only hit her once she had hit the person in front therefore it can't all be his fault.

She should also consider getting herself checked over by a medic if she feels in any discomfort I would have thought this was a receipe for a whiplash injury.

Tim,

Having used Steves service previously when my car was hit I can thoroughly recommend his service. He managed to sort everything out very efficiently and unlike my insurance company kept me informed at all times as to what was happening.
A number of other PHers have used him and wouldn't say a bad word about him!

Agreed - Steve looked after me when my bike was knocked over by a numpty in an accident repair courtesy car. Highest level of service I've had in ages.
