I recently read an article about exporting old BMW 's and Mercs to African countries, as the mark up out there is massive apparently. Many years ago I used to know a Dutch fella who did this and made a right mint out of it and I just wondered if any PHer's had any experience of this.

No - but if it involves trying to do financial deals with Nigerians I think I'll pass...

Car prices in Ireland are significantly higher than here, aswell. But I think it's all down to import duty, so doubtful that there's any money to be made...not sure if that's the case with Africa, though

An excuse for a huge laugh www.plymouth-dakar.co.uk will enlighten you a little more. I'm off on the 28th for the Gambia, last year we took our trusty £120 Volvo 240 & it made a whopping £1400 for charity.

The rules are very strict in some countries, some bribery is required if your doing it the DIY route but we bumped into a good number of people doing this. Merc diesels are what you need thay make the most by far, the older the better too.

Looks like were now going in a Merc 500 SEL (armoured too!) as opposed to the Suzuki Swift we were planning on taking. Fuel £ill springs to mind.
