Pommies enjoy festive whinge

English people like nothing more than a whinge and they are doing that with a vengeance this Christmas.
An unfair generalisation? Well, they're doing their best to live up to it.

One of the more popular stocking-fillers this Yuletide is a charming little book called Is It Just Me, Or Is Everything Shit?

The book is a publishing phenomenon, flying off the shelves.

Everything from TV shows to royalty, pop stars, shopping centres and Che Guevara are grounds for a good old moan by authors Steve Lowe and Alan MacArthur.

Lowe and MacArthur get no prizes for originality, as the latest to capitalise on the malaise of pointless irritability that seems to grip middle Britain.

The Gripes of Wrath - This Book is Guaranteed to Make Your Blood Boil is another title achieving similar success here.

Or you can pick up Talk to the Hand - The Utter Bloody Rudeness of Everyday Life (or Six Good Reasons to Stay Home and Bolt the Door). The Pedant's Revolt: Why Most Things You Think Are Right Are Wrong has attracted plenty of buyers. Or for those who like to be forewarned and miserable there's Crap Towns: The 50 Worst Places to Live in the UK and The Idler's Book of Crap Holidays: 50 Tales of Holiday Hell. And let's not forget How To Support A Crap Football Team. These titles are all tapping the same vein of discontent that prompted the TV series Grumpy Old Men, shown both here and in Australia, where middle-aged men vented their spleens about all and sundry. There's also the companion series, Grumpy Old Women, where the fairer sex has a good long whinge. And it's not just those raging against the dying of their lights - the young are also as peculiarly peeved. The album of the year was the third effort by British band Coldplay, which combines it catchy sad songs with lyrics of vague melancholy. Also on its third effort is the hit TV sketch comedy Little Britain, a slide-show of grotesque characters that is as mean-spirited as it is undeniably funny. So what's going on? If you were stuck beside such whingeing malcontents on the bus, you'd change seats. If you came across one down at the pub you'd lock yourself in the loo. So why are people now parting with their hard-earned to wallow in this pointless nihilism? Sure, misery loves company and all of that, but maybe these people should jump on a plane and visit a less-fortunate country where there is genuine cause for complaint. Then they can tell mothers scouring rubbish tips just how crap their flight was.

So do you think British people whinge too much?

I think it's great and people should stop whinging about whingers I loved the grumpy old men show and those silly books, lifes pretty boring if everyone is happy all the time, though when everyone mopes about all the time it's depressing, but at least the british make it amusing, then again maybe I am a whinger too

People do whinge too much in this country but then again if it causes debate and gets healthy results so be it.
Some people are like tape recordings though and no matter what you do ,you will never please them.
For example in my area, replace an ageing 20 shop parade with 70 new shops & stores,a ten screen cinema complex, cafes, resteraunts & pubs and people still moan its not as good
But there is a saying "The wheel that squeaks more gets the most oil"

Get back behind that bar Shane, and take that Vegamite sandwich with ya, ya bludger.

Oh yeh - and your Aussie beer is piss.

Why do they all want to work here in pubs on minimum wage if OZ is so cool?

This book must be a 'flying off the shelves phenomenon' because I've never seen it.
I thought this year's best sellers were Jamie Oliver in Italy and some cricketing bloke (not the the Aussies mention the cricket much nowadays).

I live with one. Jeasus christ shes a disgrace to her nation.

All she has done so far is:

Moan about how things are better in 'Aus'
Moan about how things are better in 'Aus'
Cost the NHS loads on a illness doesnt seem to exist
Moan about general stuff
Moan about a 2ft box left in a 6ft wide corridor and how it was an obstruction
Moan about how things are better in 'Aus'
Moan about how things are better in 'Aus'
Talk down to me about it not being hot enough (she failed to turn the heater on).
Moan that its still not hot enough - WELL OFF BACK TO 'AUS' THEN YOU FAT
Moan about how things are better in 'Aus'
Moan about the vacume cleaner being left in the wrong place.

ing .

I really fancied going to Australia on holiday but Im not so keen. Someone tell me this isnt comman place.

It bothers me slightly.
