3 grand for a tv, how much for a :censored: light bulb!

Sitting watching the projector last night - Bang! and the lights go out.
Priced around the net and found out that projector lamps are nearly £200
Does anyone know the cheapest place for a replacement lamp? It's a Hitachi PJ TX-10 and the cheapest I've found so far is £184 delivered. Surely there's a place out there selling these things cheaper than that - please say there is - please!

Unfortunately thats the way with LCD. I have had plenty of them in the past but now I will not play the 'Lamp Salesmens' games anymore.
There is nothing clever about the lamps, some cheaper projectors even use normal dichroic halogen lamps which cost less than £1 to make. Sadly it is a big ripoff.
I forked out a large sum and bought a high end CRT last year. This way there are no nasty surprises and hopefully it will be good for another 10 years.
Also, we used to install LCD/DLP but not now. It is not uncommon for lamps to last 3 months before they fail.
You do have my sympathies though, I too played that game

- take the telly instead! Reminds me, Dieselnut brought a projector round a couple of years back for me to try and repair. I couldn't - one of the LCDs was shagged- but we had some amusement by projecting the Flight Sim onto the vertical blinds of the lounge and then using a radio joystick to fly the Learjet from across the street
Oh, who cares what the neighbours think...?

I'm being forced to buy a bloody plasma now - if I do get one, I want it to be a good one, like a panasonic, but she only wants to pay upto £1k.
Best bet is to look for a good name lik,e Hitachi or Pioneer, but try to find models that are over a year old. Retailers will have had a grands worth of stock sitting on their hands for twelve months, and will want rid. Dont buy from somewhere dodgy, or buy a cheap name (like LG) purely on price. You WILL regret it.

Just out of interest what size Der sorted me out with 32" Sony widescreen last year. Top gear (not the program) & great picture
Only thing is it weights a ton. Took two of us to lift it
