I need to get a small quantity (around 20) of PCBs made. They're double sided PTH (plated through hole) boards around 70mm x 40mm with 3 ICs. Material doesn't need to be anything fancy, but it does need to survive being in a car. I have the artwork ready.

Price needs to be as cheap as possible...

Any suggestions as to who & where?

Thanks

Local technical college or uni? We made acid-etched PCB's when I was a degree stoodent doing engineering. Would have done it for payment in beer back then!

Do a web Google on pcb pool.

One I am looking at is www.pcbpool.com. They are based in Ireland.

Look in the phone book/on the Web. Plenty of places around that will do it for you, many are also desperate for work so prices should be reasonable.
Just seen where you live..... about 5 years back we had some PCB prototypes made by a company where you are. I think they were called Technotron (or something like that). Price & quality were both good.

Use pcbpool if you want a more professional board made.

At just two layers and 3 IC’s I would use a laser printer and etch them yourself

BTW: There’s nothing in there that is particularly prone to noise? Cars love to create noise (and no I don’t mean the lovely noise that comes out the arse end of a TVR)

How often will you be making boards from now on?

I'd get them done where I work (I'm actually an electonics engineer) but we're a bit busy in that area - our techs are working overtime just to keep up with normal work. I'm desk bound, so am not allowed near chemicals...

I'm not doing these PCBs at home. The quality won't be high enough, and you can't do double sided PTH anyway.

Thanks for the local pointer. Very much appreciated - personal recomendations go a long way over here. Will look at PCB pool too.

I never have much success with Yell - the places I find all want to make hundreds or thousands of whatever I want 10 of. Such is life!

Speak to Steve Dear at Chiltern Circuits in Princes Risborough 01844 343437. They do shorts runs - at a price of course.

I know our work uses:

www.hallmarkelectronics.com/

for PCB work. Not sure what constitutes a small run in their eyes though, but probably worth a call

PCB Train, will quote you a price on the basis of the number of holes and board area. Three off prices for small 2" x 2", two layer boards, plated through hole can be as low as say, £100 for the three.

www.pcbtrain.co.uk

Edited to add;

You will ned to provide them with Gerber data though.

Bloody hell! I know your wife! Isn't she the one you're married to? I might have to give her a call, just to ask if she remembers you...
