Has anyone heard of a company called SkillsTrain that advertise computer training courses? I have a friend who had a rep round to see him about signing up to one of their courses and the rep seemed a bit pushy, although the course seemed good (although maybe a bit expensive?). Has anyone got any experience/background info on the company?

Seem to be a lot of people advertising this kind of stuff nowerdays.....promising jobs etc.

I would take with a pinch of salt and go to your local college and see what course they are running for next to nothing

its northern for 'dont do it'.

these courses are a lo-ot of brass and the job that they guarentee you, you wont want. just go to a college/ night school and do it for free.

I would say it would be unrealistic to think that a skillstrain qualification alone would get you straight into a decent job, like they imply in the adverts. Answering the phone at dabs, or maybe a junior technician at a high school seems more likley IMHO. (maybe if it was an all-girls sixth form boarding school....)

The field of 'general IT bullshit' has long since peaked, you'd be better off getting trained up as a spark!

Thanks for the feedback - my friend is going to look into local college courses instead and save himself the 2 grand this course costs!

Absolutely. I moved into 'specialised IT bullshit' a few years ago and haven't looked back since!

It's amasing how I can map 'maps and stuff' sound really complex with a broad dose of TLA's and overly obscure terminology.

Specialise in GIS, it's a dead cert with no heavy lifting. Unless you're in banking/trading IT or SAP in which case, giz a job?

I thought the SAP boat had sailed a long time ago unless you were an Architect.

Surely the days of £2K dailys for ABAP developers is long since passed?
