Moving to a smaller place which unfortuantely doesn't have enough room for my seperates system. Good news is that I am going to replace it with something smaller and, dare I say it, nicer looking - doubt it will sound as good though

How am I best selling? Ebay seems like an option but do people buy semi-decent hi-fi on there? Am I best off splitting into the components or selling in bulk?

Finally - any idea what I am going to get for this lot (all looks pretty much new)?

Arcam Alpha 7 CD player
Arcam Alpha 8 Amp
Arcam Alpha 8 Power Amp
Yamaha E800 surround sound processr/amp
AE109 floor standing speakers (bi-wired)
Kef Q95 centre speaker
Kef Q85 rear speakers
About 30m of QED cable
Cable Talk interconnects

The ubiquitous Ebay. I tried to buy some high-end hi-fi on there recently and was surprised how much it was bid up to. In the end I bought it new in the shops as the E-bay saving wasn't that great. Should be good for a seller. Get it in before Xmas too, as after Xmas, people will either have no cash or be offloading their old hi-fi having had new kit for presents.

I think you might be pleasantly surprised at how well your stuff goes on ebay. Really high end stuff like Krell and Mark Levinson amps etc can be tough to move, just because there's a general reluctance to spend massive money on an unseen item. But ARCAM amps and Kef speakers will go well - especially the speakers which are known to be good for home cinema stuff.

If you do go down the ebay route I'd not sell as a bundle. Split it up and it will go much better.

Some of the better independent audio retailers take stuff as trade-in. But I suspect you won't get as much that way as you would on ebay.

Good luck!

Yup, I've sold kit on eBay. Got some serious wedge for a Yamaha AV amp that had been sitting around, which took the sting out of the purchase of a AVC-1D. There is a healthy market there for hi-fi stuff. It does seem to attract the offline offer chancers though so beware.

Definately split, make sure you have pics of each item and a decent write-up.

I recently put my A/V stuff on e-bay, Put it all on Saturday and by the following Saturday it was all gone, paid in cash and collected in person. I have now got a new smaller system from ebay aswell all within 2 weeks.

Do not put a "Buy it now" price if you get the option, you WILL get the Nigerian scammers attention, believe me.

Put a reserve price down and if anyone e-mails and asks what it is, be honest and tell them or even put it on the listing itself.

Good luck.

Thanks guys. It looks like another night of ebaying tonight then!

Hopefully I can get £500 for it all - any less and I think I'd keep it in storage or give it to the outlaws!

Thanks again, I'll let you know how I get on.

I've bought hifi on ebay, but prefer selling via specialist sites. My system is Cyrus and there is a Cyrus forum that makes it easy to find buyers. Something similar must exist for Arcam.

If I can get £330 for some Tannoy speakers, A Yamaha Sub + A Denon A/v Amp then I expect you to get a tad more than £500 for that little lot.

But you will also lose the attention of honest punters who don't like arsing around with all the auction shit, like me for instance

Just don't sell it to anyone who can't spell or who has a stuck shift key.

5 months ago it would have been easy, I'd have had the lot off you

But got mine from a nice reliable PHer

If you're going to be getting back to a bigger place ina bit you could always store them ebay with a high reserve else

hey - I'm reliable!

I've no doubt that I'll have more space sometime in the future - I'm assuming I'll have more money then too so will be able to buy something new!

Looking at past sales I recon £500 is about on the money - perhaps £600 if I luck out! Hi-fi really isn't the best place to put your money! Trouble is the kit I am looking at is expensive even second hand!
