Oh yes, I have to report at 10am Monday "for up to two weeks" at my local Crown Court for Jury Service.
I've read the leaflets, but what's it really like, will I be sent home soon or will I have to keep going back? Some of you lot must have, I presume, done it before?

Don't forget your packed lunch , before you learn the whole thing has been cancelled because of insufficient evidence.

Try and get a copy of Friday's "Peep Show" for guidance on correct jury conduct.

If you do get into the jury room you will get

One woman who won't say a thing but vote how someone she has befriended votes.
A scary dude who loses the plot in the debate and you realise he has been accused or possibly has committed a similar offence but never caught.
Another woman who will pronounce innocence because accused is wearing a nice suit and smiles at his Mum.
Another who pronounces guilt on the basis that eyebrow shape is all wrong.
Three people who couldn't make a decision if you locked them in a room with one door and asked them to decide which door to use as an exit.
Three people who wouldn't recognise dodgy evidence if it leapt up and bit them on the backside.
A final dude who is just interested in the expenses and the free food, eats anything. You gonna eat that sausage roll mate?
And you.

Good luck bro you'll need it

I concur with FiF - again - and add that when, and if, you hear a case you will hear the prosecution's case and think 'why the Hell has he pleaded not guilty, it's as clear as day that he did it?'. Then you'll hear the defence's argument and you will find yourself wondering if you're in the right courtroom, so alien is their version of the events to that of the prosecutor. It's almost like it is a different story altogether!

FiF's right about the collective IQ of a dozen people in a jury room; it is inversely proportional to the square of the number of members, and most 'average' people are pretty thick on their own, it seems. Dunno who said it but 'the jury system is the worst system that we could have; except for all the others'

Oh, and I nearly forgot, when you're on standby - most of the time in my experience - sit in the magistrate's court gallery. That is even worse. No-one gets justice, only processing.
