this bank will remain nameless
Paid off my mortgage and they took the money out my bank on the 6th Dec.

my money come out my back account on the 9th of each month for my mortage. so it was paid well before it was due, they state 2 days before not 3.

Well bugger me. they took the money out my bank. so they now have all my money from my mortgage plus any extra months payment.

I hope they bank is open tomorrow cus I am going to play hell with them. And I hope they don't expect me to wait for my money as they have no right to take it out my account.

Is there any group that helps customers with problems like this as I might say if this matter is not sorted out asap i will get in contact with them. Like trading standards?

To be honest, with the banks being as beligerant as they are nowadays I'd have expected them to do that anyway. They'll just reverse the payment out again, you may even find its back in your account by tomorrow morning, as the computer will probably notice that there isn't an amount outstanding anymore on your mortgage.

I wouldn't have worried unles it hadn't been returned to my account after the space of about a week.

Then I'd have walked in wanting to rip the bank manager a new orafice though...

My bank continued taking payments for a loan after it was fully paid and I didn't notice for five months (I'm not loaded, just disorganised)

I got the money back within a day or so of contacting them and successfully charged them interest on their unsecured loan.

Did you cancel your direct debit/standing order for your mortgage payments? This will just be an issue of computer automation not being smart enough to cross reference stuff and the software not being smart enough to notice you have paid your mortgage off.

From your rant, anyone would think that this was the result of spitefull individuals within the bank that have got it in for you personally. In fact the folks in the bank would like things to run as smoothly as you would, and they will sort it in just a few key strokes anyway.

Chill out dude

Not your fault then, getting the balance/timing right on something like this is tricky. They dont want you to cancel because if it doesnt go to plan, you miss a payment and go into default, sound advice really. I suppose it also depends on how tight your finances are, this sort of crossover will get sorted so it is best just to let it all happen and then be contra'd when it does. But if it clears your account and you're skint, its a bummer.

As I understand it instructions for direct debits are sent by the banks up to 7 days before the payment is actually made so by the time you'd paid the mortgage off the payment would have already been in the pipeline. You were given bad advice about not cancelling but the safe approach is always to cancel the authority at your end to be safe. There are safeguards for DD's and you'll get the money back pretty swiftly I'm sure once you contact them.

You will not be issued a default for missing a single payment

I suppose not, on occassion I have missed the odd payment on a card or something, lethargy really, sometimes get a penalty on a CC bill for late/missed payment, but they always waive it when I squeak. Wouldnt they take a mortgage payment a bit more seriously though?

Forgive me if this is out of line but if you've got enough to clear the capital on your mortgage I'm surprised that one months repayment not being in your account is going to be such a big deal.

I think your bank, once contacted, will resolve things pretty quickly.

Pay off my mortgage any time in the next 10 years - I wish !!!
