Boris has resigned as editor of the Spectator and got the shadow higher education portfolio. Good news. The Tories have finally decided to stop shooting themselves in the foot.

"This Christmas the circulation of the magazine (The Spectator) stands at about 70,000, an all-time high."

Just out of interest how does that compare with other magazines like Private Eye or even mass market mags?

Oh fantastic!

The man is a legand.

It looks like Cameron is doing a damn good job picking up the best candidates for his shadow cabinet. Next stop Micheal Howard please, get him back in the front benches.

But the man is an idiot. The only thing he could win is upper class tt of the year. Sure I thought he is funny on Have I got News For You , but the thought of him actaully having any kinda power...not good.

I dunno, I thought his appearance on HIGNFY showed an approach to common sense politics.

I dont think he's that good at articulating himself but get the feeling that he's very intelligent. His "wallowing in grief" statement was probably correct, look at all the fuss over Diana etc, people just dont like being told when they're being a bit silly these days.

Good news, though hardly unexpected since Boris was one of the very first to back Cameron.

I think he brings some flair and personality to the shadow cabinet.

Surely just as much of a posh tt as Cameron. Admittedly, a far more witty and entertaining one. I can really see him engaging with the electorate!

To be honest, that's pretty small, though you'd probably expect it to be.

Well, some recent circulation figures are at 67,000 (so 'about' 70,000 then) with 17,000 of these outside of the UK. What proportion of these are subscriber or paid-for circulation as opposed to bulk etc. I don't know....

As comparison, evo has a circulation of about 72,000, UK edition of The Economist at about 155,000, Sudoku magazine a smidge under 200,000 , and Private Eye nearly 3x larger at 210,000.

Largest circulation magazine in the UK is the Sky customer mag (getting on for 7 million), but big high-street titles such as heat, OK or FHM are generally putting out 5-600,000 copies.

The Spectator is smaller than CrossStitcher (about 76,000) though

Given the fact that they're neighbours & DC's favourite programme is alledgley Top Gear (coincidentally so was Kate Moss's !) this might not be a million miles away from fact.

The Shadow Cabinet is shaping up to be spiffingly brilliant. Hip Hip Hoorah.

As an entertainment figure, he's a top man. As a politician he's a breath of fresh air. As a credible alternative to run the multi-billion pound education department, he's a potential liability. The likes of Paxman will eat him up for breakfast. As such, Cameron has made his first mistake - and the Labour spin doctors will be rubbing their hands in anticipation.

Y'know Folks, speaking as a Socialist, I like Boris. No, really I do! He's entertaining, charismatic, is not unintelligent, the sort of bloke that you'd like to have a pleasant (if not agreeing) conversation with. I'll say it again......I like him.

But!.......He is: like Tory. B. Liar, a Tory, went to Tory schools, had a privilaged Tory education, Never had to put on a pair of overalls.....(2 minutes to put on.....45 yrs to take off)... Hasn't got a clue what real life is about!....

Sorry folks, but like many other very likeable Tory MP's, Charisma will never make me vote for them.....they speak only for their own "class" because that is ALL they know...Pleasant villages....and ...Leafy Glades....or maybe... a stately home in the "home" counties?..

They know nothing of the "England" that creates the wealth! Only of the class that rides upon it for very little effort.

Pah!....Or should I say:...Bah!....Humbug!!!....
