Does anyone know how much it should cost to have an asbestos specialists come around to a domestic house and inspect it?
And if it needs to be removed how much it will cost?

I would not get it inspected unless I absolutely had too! It will lead to lots of chin rubbing, and lightening of your wallet.

One asbestos waste pipe = £150 to be collected by the council.

My mum has just had an asbestos roof removed, at a cost of £350, (21 sheets of 9x3 foot). It is external, and not internal, but it might help.

bugger, best start lubing up
I'm hoping that the asbestos is ok and "best left as is" rather than having to be removed. The stuff is on a back of a door on the under side of the stairs in the understairs cupboard and in the loft surrounding the old hot-air vent pipe.
My house used to be heated by a hot-air vent system so its all over the place.

Does anyone know how much a specilists will charge to have a look?

Does that mean you can move your house to Ipswich, have it removed, then move back again...?

It's the common sense thing to do isn't it?!

Had an old asbestos garage, had to call in asbestos specialists as the sites where it can be taken to are diminishing rather rapidly. Cost £650 to have it all removed (by van..not a skip) and they had to constantly work under a spray of water to keep the dust down.

Only good points are that the horrible garage was removed, and they totally swept and cleaned up after them.

Dunno what it costs for an inspection, but it sure costs for the removal.

Interesting - we've got an asbestos walled garage that I'd like to make big enough to actually fit a car in. Did they just remove the asbestos bits or the entire structure?

I dismantled an old garage that had an asbestos roof.I spoke to the council who said that if I double wrapped the roof sheets they had some enclosed skips at their recycling sites that were there specifically for asbestos disposal.I sprayed the roof with water to keep the dust down and made sure I didn't break any sheets and Bob's your uncle, garage roof removed and disposed of for £20( the cost of the plastic sheeting).I also used a face mask just in case.If the asbestos in your house in not damaged then I would imagine there sould be no problem.

Just had to folk out £300 to have a surveyor have a look and take samples. Will know tomorrow if it's ok. I either pay this amount and everything is ok, or it might need to be encapsulated (sp?) which might be a few hundred quid more or the whole lot needs to be removed and this is going to be £xxxx! They had to remove all of it as I think the roof was corrugated asbestos too, the only bit they left me was the metal stripping stuff off the apex of the roof!

So, are you actually allowed to remove the garage roof panels yourself?

From the figures being quoted, this is asbestos, not weapons grade plutonium!

Although there is always the option a friend of mine took when, after moving into a new house, he was told he couldnt take the old cooker into the council tip in his rented transit. It was either that or carry it for the 5 mile walk, so it ended up kicked out the back doors of the transit about a hundred metres up from the tip entrance.

Not that I'm suggesting this course of action but removing reasonable amounts of domestic waste is the council's job, and there could be circumstances engineered where they have to dispose of it...

I did.Just double wrapped them in polythene sheeting and took them to the asbestos "skip" at the local tip.See my post above.
