ATM fraud bastards....
Discussion
Went out with some mates last Wednesday night (30th November) and we all used this one particular cash machine. I was the first to use it and as I put my card it, it felt really tight and took more force than normal to put the card it. I took it out again and said to my mates "There's something not right about that". We had a look in and around the slot but everything was sealed in and nothing looked untoward. So all three of us proceeded to take cash out.
This morning, one of my mates noticed £600 had gone out of his account and the bank have just rang him to confirm that the particular machine had indeed had been the target of a card-reader scam. Luckily nothing on my and the other chaps account but we've cancelled the cards anyway.
For anyone in the area, its the one outside MacDonalds on Markeaton roundabout, Derby A52.
Batards
(Edited to get the date right in case anyone else used it around that time.)

I'd be inclined to tell them that you think this has happened and have destroyed the card already (having 1st made sure that you have enough to get buy for a week before you get the new one.)
I get through at least 2 cards a year thanks to these machines and numpty till operators who try to remove the magnetic strip rather than gently swipe it!

Both my mate and I have just rang our respective banks. Interesing how they have they're own little quirks when dealing with this crime. My bank had no problem cancelling my card and issuing a new one, however nobody bothered to ask where the cash machine was. My mate, on the other hand, (not the one who had money stolen) had to argue with his bank as they said "We're not allowed to cancel the card for no reason. A fraud has to have been comitted before we can do anything."![]()
"OK then... Oh, dear me, I seem to have lost my card. Will you send me a new one please?"

Oh, they cancelled it eventually but it was just the attitude of not acting on the information when it's highly likely his card has been cloned. Not unless they have an unusually high occurence of people cancelling their cards for no reason, or for a laugh....
Advice from someone who knows:
Always check the slot you place your card into. If it is standing 'proud' of the machine front then check it very carefully. Some scumbag has probably stuck a card reader on the front of the machine.
Always run your hand along the top edge of the machine over the keyboard - favourite place for spy cameras to read your pin as you punch it in.
Never let anyone stand close to you as you put in your pin, they punch it into their mobile phone for later.
If you have any doubts, walk away and use another machine.
Hope that helps chaps.

FFS how many people in this country have no morals?!?
I suspect the majority of us 'old timers' have but doubt the same can be said for the more recent arrivals, of which there seems to be an ever increasing number in and around Derby.
A post office in a village near Derby was raided recently. Rumour was that it was going to be a bank but the plans were changed.
Our village's main Co-op had the cash machine ripped out of the wall a few months ago. They had to smash through the front doors to get to it. The new machine is even further inside.
The smaller, village centre, Co-0p (Different Co-op division) was subjected to an armed raid a couple of weeks ago. People from elsewhere were blamed in the press but my guess is that it was down to locals gathering cash to pay for their speeding fines since it coincided with some 'visible policing' in the form of a scamera van wandering the village for 4 hours one evening.
I'm wondering what will be next.
LongQ - Is the village in question Castle Donington by any chance?
There been a few high profile incidents in and around the city recently. The Morrisons supermarket was raided and a security guard shot in the leg. The same gang then came back and did the attached petrol station a week or so later.
The banks seem to be getting worse though. A colleagues wife has a second, unused, current account. She was quite shocked when sh found it was £3k overdrawn last week, despite the card not having left the house since it was opened. So even if you're really carefull, it pays to keep a tight eye on your accounts.
