...well actually, if my kids behaved like certain MP's they'd be called to account. Unfortunately our MP's aren't:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/4492688.stm

I'm afraid that "reasoned debate" can simply be avouded. MP's that use this practise should be hounded out of office in my view.

Filibustering is an old political method, it is also commonly used in the American senate.

Put the blame where it truly lies, on the Labour government which did not give sufficient time for the bill to pass.

Ok so they talk about his record but what of the bill?

Will it help people who are accused of GBH/ABH etc when intruders break into their properties?

Well that's the point. There are various opinions and different points of view, but this sort of time wasting doesn't allow for reasoned debate.

What an arse.

So all that talk a few months back By TB about making the law more clear has come to nothing. I remember all the newpaper interviews. TV intervies.

Nothing ever changes in this pathetic shit hole of a country.

They can say anything they want tell us what we want to hear and then get a Prick like this to make sure it never happens. Blair looks like the good guy and the law change that none of these left wing pillock wanted anyway never happens.

Hurray for new Labour.

Go on lads award yourself another pay rise, make a few more expenses claims and make sure your pensions are ok.

Meanwhile the rest of us plebs can go on funding you pathetic shits so out of touch with what we want its criminal.

What are you up to today, Srebbe? Your threads are always worth a look. Aha, beating up a few unwaring MPs again, I see.

Hi LA. I suppose it largely emanates from my loathing of paying obscene levels of Tax. I wouldn't mind paying stupid sums of money if it was spent on things which are worthwhile. Sadly, I have to have private healthcare, private pension, private schooling, etc.. And I (or anyone else) shouldn't have to after shelling out all our money! When I see Government waste, it riles me somewhat!

What he has done is stick two fingers up at democracy. He honestly believes that he knows better than everybody else and that he is therefore perfectly entitled to prevent a democratic debate. Astonishing arrogance. I hope his contituents are paying attention.

Well I've just sent this email. I'll post his reply!

Dear Mr. Dismore,

Many congratulations on entering the record books on Friday with your marathon oration, in Parliament. I’ll be sure to buy the next edition of “The Guinness Book of Records” which will, no doubt, contain the details of your 197 minute exploit.

In the meantime, I’m wondering whether you would be kind enough to explain something to me. As a Tax paying citizen of The UK, I was given to understand that MP’s are elected by the British public (your paymasters) in order to debate and vote for the serious issues of the day. Obviously the little stunt you pulled on Friday was simply designed so that the bill would not be debated by any other MP’s – one of whom was my own elected MP.

The caper you pulled was obviously perfectly legal, however it was most certainly immoral. And it is morality which is the most important characteristic that our elected leaders should exhibit, I’m sure you’ll agree. I hope your constituents also take this view at the next General Election. I have certainly made a note to write to your local media when it comes to canvassing for re-election in a few years time. Now I’ve no doubt that your response might be “all MP’s, on all parties, partake in filibustering”. And I would reply that all those MP’s are also acting immorally.

In case you’re interested, I wondered whether my opinion of such practises was simply a minority opinion. As such, I posted the question on an Internet web site. Please note it was a “motoring” website, not a political one. As such, it is frequented by regular (non-political) people from all walks of life. I thought you’d like to see some of their comments. Unfortunately, I’ve had to “XXXXX” certain colourful adjectives:

That guy is a XXXXX, he is my old MP.

I have had dealings with him via email and he is like a XXXXX schoolkid.

Infact, check this thread out if you want to know what sort if person he is!

What an XXXXX.

Lastly Mr Dismore, I’ll be sure to email you any further comments which are posted about you on the web-site, which is viewed by more than 50,000 people.

Have a great week.

Kind regards,

Steve Roberts – UK Tax Payer

You all seem to be pinning the blame on this one MP.

The Sunday Telegraph claims he was acting under the orders of the Labour leadership, who wish to block this bill but do not wish to be held directly accountable.

Furthermore control over the legislative agenda is one of the most powerful weapons at the government's disposal. They could if they wished have allocated sufficient parliamentary time for this bill to have been decided, one way or the other.

Do not blame the foot soldier allocate it where it truly belongs.

A soldier who massacres civilians under orders is still a war criminal.

Indeed. And one has to decide where to wage the battle. I hope he forwards all such letters to his political masters. Secondly, his first loyalty should be his constituents not the Ministers, to whom he obviously brown noses without any shame! I expect he'll be promoted before long!

not me and I didn't read the telegraph. I beleive this government have the utmost contempt for us. They know best and will do accordingly bugger the rest of us. But then they spin it and make it look as if they are trying their best but a renegade back bencher has spoild it for them.

Bet that prick got a lot of brownie points for that. expect his stock to rise rapidly and get a very cushy number some time soon in way of a thank you.
