FFS the bloke was an alcoholic who mucked up a good liver that someone else could of made good use of.He was a bloke who kicked a bag of wind around a field a good few years back and done a good job of being everything that a bloke shouldn't be.And now he's being made out to be some kind of hero/god that deserves to have national/international coverage of his funeral. Are we going to start televising everyones funeral( especially sports persons with drug/drink problems/wife beaters/rapists/paedos etc etc).Makes me glad I pay my TV licence(amongst other things )

He is a god to football supporters. 12 of my work mates have travelled up to the funeral just to be there. Left at 6 this morning. If you don't understand why the football community is in mourning then don't post. One of the worlds greatest has died. Give a little respect.

Whatever he did in his private life isn't relevant. He is one of the greatest footballers of the last 50 years and there will be thousands of people wishing to pay their respects - if you don't agree with the televised funeral, don't watch it.

I can't think of anyones funeral I really want to sit and watch on TV, let alone someone who drunk himself to an early grave.

"Scorcher" has an inappropriate name for a football hater. "Scorcher" was a very lively football orientated comic back in the 60s/70s.

For those of you that have never Fked up in life you have my blessing to critisize him.
I would like to think the rest of us would give him some respect, after all its very hard to critisize a dead man.

to George ,i was entertained by the man.

I reckon Boris was right. The british are becoming very adept at wallowing in collective weeping and wailing.

RIP George, but FFS let's pull ourselves together.

ed up is a bit of an understatement... Had everything in the world and threw it away in exchange for a bottle. Great footballer, and it's good that he is celebrated, but flags at half mast, etc? A bit OTT for me.

It's a shame someone as decent as Richard Burns doesn't get this kind of recognition.

Indeed.

Yes its a great loss to one of the greatest football players, However that man threw away his chance of life. Twice. Where it could of gone to someone who deserved it in life.

It's amazing really, I didn't even know he'd died until I read it on here.

As for televised funerals, you can keep um, if I want to depress myself I'll go and watch Southend play.

George Best was a great footballer to those who watched him and also a great personality, just a shame he couldn't quit the drink.

Ach didums, did the funeral of a sporting star interrupt your viewing of Dick And Dom In Da Bungalow this morning? You could have watched all your favourite creamy muck muck action on BBC2 you know. Ask your mummy to pick up your dummy, put it back in your mouth and have some respect.

Nope it interrupted Saturday Kitchen

For those that don't give a about football (me being one) it seemed rather OTT and unnecessarily televised.

For those that love football, understandable that you'd want to see the ceremony on telly.

And given the football fan base is rather larger than that of UK rally driving you can see why Richard Burns' death went unnoticed. Although some mention on the national news surely wasn't out of the question?

Pandering to the lowest denominator. I get the impression there isn't as much intelligent tv as there used to be.

They had a section on the local news for Richard Burns last week and IIRC he died 4 years to the day he won the championship?,he came across as a real quality bloke, and the type that wouldnt judge or want to be compared to another man, dead or alive.

Richard Burns.

I think the coverage is OTT , everything that happened to G Best is self inflicted, and he had a second chance in life , cheated death once but not twice. He might have been a great footballer once , but he walked out on his footballer career , and decided to retire in his 20s before he buggered off to the States. He let his fans down by doing that and let them down by drinking himself to distruction.Plus he enjoyed beating up his women , so what does that say about his personnality?
Now we treat him as an angel if not a saint? get a grip folks and lets call a spade a spade.
