I'm sorry to say that I can no longer be a Pistonheader. The powers that be have decided to block all internet access other than my e-mail so I'm going to have to bid you all goodbye. I don't have a computer at home so I guess that's the end of my life as a Pistonheader.

This has to be the worst news that I've had in a long time and to say that I'm a wee bit pissed off would be an understatement.

I hope that you'll all be very happy together and don't do anything that I wouldn't do!

Kind regards,

Ben

Surely thats easily rectified? Go out and buy one, how about this afternoon? you could be set up, sort out an ISP and be on-line in half an hour. Dont tell me you've not got a phone line at home?

I give it three days before you're shopping at PC World and having Broadband installed at home...

Edited to add - beaten to it by BG. OK, make it three hours, not three days then.

Come on you can't give in that easily. Your pc doesn't have to do fancy stuff, just get you on broadband and PH.

It must surely be worth it just think of the laughs your gonna miss, I've only been on 3 months, and can't imagine a day without it, it cheers me up.

I'm supposed to be cleaning for the in-laws coming this aft

Don't do it mate. Go out now, find a cheap computer, get broadband for about £15/month. Just think about everything you'll miss out on if you go. All those questions you need answering, or even when you just need cheering up.

But if you're set to go, then good luck mate - you'll need it without PH

It can be cheaper than you think. Dell had a brand new PC with DVD-RW and 17" flat screen for £299 the other day. Bargain ! I pay something like £18 a month for Broadband, phone line with free evening and weekend calls, plus digital TV woth NTL. Just the line rental with BT is something like £13 a month. It helps that I don't need a BT line , this being an NTL area

I do a load of stuff online that's a pain in the bum to do otherwise. Take this month for example. Car insurnace, crimbo shopping, online banking, getting the best deals on virtually anything, such as my energy supplier etc etc .
Then there's all the car stuff I'd be lost without. The other week my car wouldn't start. Posted this on a forum and had people suggest things and post links to online manuals that show the wiring for the crank sensors ( this was the problem ) and one guy even sent me a spare sensor to try out before I forked out £70 on a new one ! None of that would of happend without the PC. All depends how you use it though .

The 300somthing Dells are great, but there is one step cheaper. Various brands, Phillips is one, make a terminal for internet access only, no computer persay attached, uses your TV as a screen. This may be an option.

Right then, looking at the cars you own, I guess you can afford £399 for an IBM R50 laptop - with wireless - from Staples. A BB connection with a wireless router and your away. Easy really
