After the threads on depression, it got me thinking.

How do you clear your head when its so full of stuff you feel its gonna burst?

And how do you chase the blues away?

Clearing my head is easy during the day, I just get the i pod and take the dog for a long walk, it gives me plenty of time to sort my head out and work out where I go from here. On an evening I have a problem, two kids to look after, can't just up sticks and take off for a walk. Need to find another way of clearing my head that doesn't involve tramping the hills for hours.

Chasing the blues away, is usually the kids making me laugh, or the dog, (he's just a big daft puppy). Or failing that I have Jasper Carrott on my i pod and a few stand up comedians on DVD. Or my best mate, she's usually good for a laugh, and we keep each other sane.

I didnt read the threads, but theres booze, lots of it. Theres nothing like drowning your sorrows Video games are great, dynamite excapism! Friends of course, the kind you can natter on all night with. People really help put things into perspective and make life seem so much more managable when problems are shared

Musical instrument are as absorbing as games and movies with the added benefit of being proven theraputic tools. I dont write my frustrations out, but those who do swear by it (as does the meditative collective). Play with the dog. Just because the sun has gone down and its too late for a walk doesnt mean the dog shouldnt be loved. I spend hours each month playing with my gerbils (quiet at the back) - every minute I spend with them is rewarded, they become tamer, more trusting and interesting etc. Giving love back to people and animals is as rewarding as it is theraputic.

Read PH - I had the day from hell today and by lunchtime had had more than enough. Looked at PH and before very long I was laughing at something that had been posted.

I walk to work in the morning listening to Terry Wogan....that starts my day off well!!!

Fine when he's home, but he's away more than home, so I still have a problem.

I like to try and veg out, escape life the universe, everything and everyone.

My favourites are curling up with a good book and some tunes in the background, or an epic session playing computer games (something I can just chill and play).

Basically I need to escape every so often, every couple of weeks for a few hours, and those are my chosen methods to not only run off from everyone, but also escape for a little bit to somewhere else.

If I am having a blue day (blue as in depressed!), I usually go and have a hot bath and then chill out reading a book, doing some cross stitch or something else that is just for me.

If it's a day that has gone very wrong and I have got to plate throwing stage, then I tend to clean the kitchen, my tiled kitchen floor generally cops for a real furious scrubbing, and if it's really really bad, then the whole house gets a sort!
