Been arguing about this for a while with a mate. He reckons it is illegal for a bar to serve you a double vodka redbull if the staff member mixes it for you. i.e its ok for them to serve the double in a glass and also a can of redbull which you can then mix yourself. As a barman however, I think thats bollox. Never been told not to do it and I cannot see legislation introduced as a reaction to one particular combination (a single vodka and redbull is ok btw!).

Any ideas good people?

It was illegal here, now, most pubs don't sell red bull anymore. Anyway, it's awful.

if it was illegal then i very much doubt that weatherspoons would serve huge jugs of it with something like 4 vodkas in it.

its like the old myth that keeps popping up that it is illegal to serve a snakebite (half lager half cider).

I was told that you needed a cocktail licence to be allowed to perform any mix of alcoholic drinks
but i doubt that anyone would adhear to this. As for the red bull im sure this law only applies to mixing alchol with alchol im sure you can mix any soft drinks with alcohol

from memory, they won't serve you doubles out in australia, something to do with being "responsible", so no one would serve us double vodka redbulls.
they would, however, serve you 2 vodkas in seperate glasses and a can of red bull, and then give you a larger glass if you asked them!

Only one I have come across in my five years behind a bar is that you can't put more than a treble in a glass.

Slightly off topic, under the new laws thay are bringing in spot fines for bar staff serving underage drinkers. I can appreciate this in a pub envioronment but how is it going to work when you are in a club and the doorstaff are supposed to vet this. I am loathe to be fined £80 for serving somebody who should not have been allowed through the doors in the first place.

As for double VRB's, I serve about 50 a night and have never been told of any problem.

A 'cocktail licence'? Shirley you jest?

That would make all the pubs in the land in breach of their terms. Cheeky Vimtos/Mix(bitter'n'mild)/Traffic Lights/Brandy and Babysham (not seen this for a while)/Snakebite and endless others (ie I can't remember any more) are available without a murmur just about anywhere.

I fink it's just the management not wanting to attract 'that' clientele

Isn't this the new version of the old urban myth about Snakebites being illegal?

In my day (i.e. 50p a pint student night at The Event in Brighton) I was told by a bouncer that it wasn't illegal to serve it, but it was 'discouraged' due to the nature of extreme bladderedness you develop at drinking such a thing. Which struck me as strange considering you could buy 20 pints of 'bow for £10...

You should be ok. The owner of the club has a 'duty of care' to the staff in which he employs. He has to take responsibility for those that come in to drink alcaholic beverages. The license reflects that he has ROAR to discriminate against under aged drinkers, and as all nightclubs have alcahol licences, it is his (owner or head doormans') responsibility to prevent them on the premesis if they are under age.

I've had quadruple vodka and lemonade in Creation in Leeds. That was £11.50 several years ago too.

Think I'd been on doubles most of the nite, then had a triple, but thought, bah, quadruple.

Bar woman kept serving me, not surprised at that price!

Did have breath like petrol though, so was probably a fire hazard!

There is no such thing as a cocktail licence now, if there ever was incidentially.

Incidentially serving laws which have changed are that it used to be illegal to serve a group of prostitutes or a police officer in uniform. You can now serve both
